Nationals | Joe Ross to throw bullpen session

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 17:41:24 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, July 27. He threw only 43 pitches in his rehab start Sunday, July 24, so he probably will make one or two more rehab starts.

Fantasy Tip: Ross should rejoin the starting rotation when he is activated from the disabled list but that appears to be a few weeks away. Ross has a 7-4 record and a 3.49 ERA this season and should be a starting candidate in most leagues when he is healthy.

Nationals | Joe Ross highly values by Nats

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 06:58:25 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) will not be traded for a rental, including New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Ross will make a minor league rehab start Sunday, July 24, and then should return to the Washington rotation. Through his first two seasons, Ross has a 3.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 148 strikeouts over 172 innings. He is a solid end-of-the-rotation starter for your fantasy staff with upside for more in future seasons.

Nationals | Joe Ross to rehab Sunday

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:52:55 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) will make a minor league rehab start Sunday, July 24. That means SP Lucas Giolito could return and start against the San Diego Padres Sunday. He's coming off 6 2/3 shutout innings for Class AAA Syracuse July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Ross has held his own in a rotation spot this year with a 3.49 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.5 K/9, so he should be stashed in all formats. There's a good chance he returns after just one or two rehab starts. Giolito has much more upside, though, as a frontline starting pitcher and is certainly attractive in all leagues if he faces the Padres Sunday.

Nationals | Joe Ross spins bullpen session

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 14:53:58 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Thursday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Ross is going to throw a rehab outing before returning to the Washington rotation, and it appears he's close to being ready to take the mound. He owns a 3.49 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 7.5 K/9 for the season and should be owned in all leagues now that he's closing in on returning. Expect him back in approximately two weeks, barring any setbacks.

Nationals | Joe Ross needs rehab start

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:53:39 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) will make a rehab start before returning from the disabled list, according to manager Dusty Baker. That likely rules Ross out from starting Sunday, July 24, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Ross has been respectable this year with a 3.49 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings with the Nats this year, and he should remain stashed in the majority of fantasy leagues. He could just need one rehab start before returning. Keep in mind, though, that Washington could look to limit his innings down the stretch.

Nationals | Joe Ross throws sim game Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 15:33:21 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch simulated game Tuesday, July 19, and he should be ready for a minor league rehab start next. Ross reported no setbacks after his session Tuesday. He's likely to need multiple rehab starts since he's had a long layoff. The Nats will see how SP Reynaldo Lopez fares Tuesday before deciding who will take Ross' turn in the rotation at least two more times. SP Lucas Giolito is another option. General manager Mike Rizzo suggested that Ross will get his rotation spot back when he's healthy, but he didn't rule out either Lopez or Giolito remaining in the rotation based on performance.

Fantasy Tip: Because Ross is guaranteed a rotation spot when he's healthy, he deserves to be stashed in all but the shallowest of mixed leagues. He has a 3.49 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.5 K/9, but keep in mind the Nats could look to limit his innings later this season. Giolito and Lopez are both top pitching prospects, with Giolito having the higher ceiling.

Nationals | No timeline for Joe Ross

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 19:32:46 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) continues to toss, but manager Dusty Baker said Friday, July 15, there is no timeline for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Ross has been a solid starter this year, and he is worth hanging on to in most mixed formats as he works his way back.

Nationals | Joe Ross' injury not serious

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 12:25:26 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) going on the 15-day disabled list was a precautionary move, according to manager Dusty Baker. Baker said Ross could have pitched if it was later in the season.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Ross should be able to return shortly after the All-Star break, but owners should still monitor the situation. He has a 7-4 record with a 3.49 ERA so far this season and is a solid starting option when healthy.

Nationals | Joe Ross to DL

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 13:37:24 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, July 3, with inflammation in his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Ross's velocity dipped into the high 80s during his final inning on the mound, which should raise red flags. This shouldn't impact the Nationals' pitching depth too much, so don't be surprised if Ross is out a little longer to give his shoulder time to heal. If you can, keep Ross in deeper NL and mixed contests just in case he returns, and look elsewhere in other leagues.

Nationals | Joe Ross wins seventh game

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 04:07:42 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross improved to 7-4 overall as he overcame a rocky start for an 11-4 win over the New York Mets on Monday, June 27. Ross gave up four runs and then retired 11 of the next 12 batters.

Fantasy Tip: With a nearly 3-1 walk-to-strikeout ratio, Ross is powering past hitters and doing a pretty good job this season. Granted, the Nats' bats have helped, but Ross is worth a flyer in daily leagues and seasonal ones.
