Nationals | Joe Ross moving to 'pen

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 13:37:38 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross will move to the bullpen for the rest of the year. SP Tanner Roark will take Ross' spot in the starting rotation. The Nationals saw Ross fatiguing in his last two starts.

Fantasy Tip: This was an expected move as the Nats look to protect Ross' innings total this season. Roark ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) broke out with Washington last year, going 15-10 with a 2.85 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 6.3 strikeouts per nine innings. He's certainly worth a look in deep mixed leagues down the stretch, and he could be a great value pick on FantasyScore in the right matchups.

Nationals | Joe Ross may not be shut down

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 10:08:52 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross may not be shut down in the final month of the season the way he's been pitching, according to manager Matt Williams. Ross has given up just one earned run in 13 innings with 11 strikeouts in his last two starts.

Fantasy Tip: Ross' ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) impressive two-game streak will be put to the test by the St. Louis Cardinals tonight. He's a shaky daily play, but as long as Ross remains in Washington's rotation, he should continue to be owned in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Nationals | Joe Ross stifles Padres

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 19:55:17 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross allowed one unearned run on one hit and struck out seven in a win over the San Diego Padres Thursday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: After a couple of rough outings, Ross ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has allowed just one unearned over 13 innings in his last two starts. If he draws a solid matchup, Ross can make a worthwhile value play at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Joe Ross reaching innings limit

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 17:43:08 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross is expected to lose his rotation job to SP Tanner Roark, who will transition back to a starting role. Ross has thrown 136 2/3 innings, more than any before in his career. The team hasn't said what exactly his innings limit will be, but admit he is near his team-imposed limit.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Ross ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) will be used out of the bullpen, or if he will be shut down completely, but it is clear his days of FantasyScore usefulness in 2015 are almost over.

Nationals | Joe Ross will stay in rotation

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 16:50:56 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross will remain in the starting rotation, while SP Doug Fister will move to the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his seven starts this season, and he has struck out at least seven batters four times. Fister ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) can be stashed in NL-only leagues, but he can dropped in shallower mixed leagues.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg lined up for Saturday

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 12:49:35 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) is likely to be activated from the disabled list to start against the Colorado Rockies Saturday, Aug. 8. However, manager Matt Williams hasn't made it official yet. Strasburg has been out since July 4 with a strained left oblique muscle, and he's sporting a 5.16 ERA in 13 starts this season. However, he gave up just two runs in 15 2/3 innings while striking out 18 in his time in between DL stints. SP Doug Fister could be bumped out of the rotation when Strasburg returns. SP Joe Ross is a candidate to be sent back to the minors, too.

Fantasy Tip: The Nats are home against the Rockies Saturday night, which makes it more palatable to use Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) on FantasyScore in his first start back from the DL.

Nationals | Joe Ross starting vs. Mets Tuesday

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 13:35:06 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross will start against the New York Mets Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has shown impressive upside when given an opportunity this season. He has a 2.66 ERA, a 1.09 FIP, a 1.03 WHIP and a 10.2 K/9 through 20 1/3 innings over three starts. FantasyScore owners can start him with confidence against the Mets Tuesday, especially at his low cost.

Nationals | Joe Ross the odd man out

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 12:06:04 -0700

The Washington Nationals have decided not to use a six-man rotation when SP Stephen Strasburg (neck) returns from the disabled list. SP Joe Ross will lose his rotation spot, although manager Matt Williams has been impressed with his performance thus far. "He's opened eyes. Seriously opened eyes," Williams said.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA through his first three major league starts, with 23 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings. It is not certain if he will be demoted to the minors or moved to the bullpen once Strasburg returns, although the Nats now know they can count on him to step in if another starter gets injured.

Nationals | Joe Ross fans 11

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 19:21:40 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross (2-1) struck out 11 batters in a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, June 19. He allowed one run, six hits and one walk over 7 1/3 innings in just his third major-league start.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has struck out 23 batters in just 20 1/3 innings. His next start will come against the Atlanta Braves, who have scored the fourth-most runs in the National League, so you may want to avoid using Ross next week despite his solid outing Friday.

Nationals | Joe Ross shines

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:31:18 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross allowed seven hits over eight innings Saturday, June 13, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) also walked one batter, but he allowed just two earned runs while piling up eight strikeouts. That's now 12 strikeouts in 13 major league innings for Ross this season, and he'll be a worthy option for his next scheduled start Thursday, June 18, against the Tampa Bay Rays.
