Twins | Alex Meyer playing catch

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 18:41:52 -0700

Minnesota Twins P Alex Meyer (shoulder) resumed playing catch Wednesday, July 6, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer has been on the disabled list for nearly two months because of right shoulder fatigue. The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in two games this season and is not worth stashing outside of deep AL-only fantasy leagues.

Twins | Alex Meyer throws Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 18:36:56 -0700

Minnesota Twins P Alex Meyer (shoulder) threw a bullpen session without experiencing any setbacks Friday, May 20. He is scheduled to throw again Sunday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer has been dealing with right shoulder fatigue and there is no timetable for his return from the disabled list. The 25-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in two appearances (one start) at the MLB level this year and is 1-1 with a 1.04 ERA in three games (two starts) with Class AAA Rochester. Meyer's fantasy value is limited to deep AL-only leagues at this point.

Twins | Alex Meyer sent down

Wed, 04 May 2016 10:01:58 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer was optioned to the minors after his start Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer lasted just 2 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs to the Houston Astros Tuesday night. Before that, he was used in relief for an inning April 29 and allowed two runs. Meyer could be swing man/long relief arm for the Twins again at some point this year, but his fantasy value is limited to deeper AL-only setups.

Twins | Tommy Milone out, Alex Meyer in

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:32:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone is moving to the bullpen, and SP Alex Meyer will make the start in Milone's place Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Milone is a soft tosser who had a 5.40 ERA and only 17 strikeouts in 20 innings over his four starts. He can be left to the waiver wire outside of maybe deep AL leagues. Meyer will be making his first major league start against the Astros Tuesday. He sported a 5.28 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and struck out 9.8 hitters per nine in the minors last year. Meyer's stay in the rotation may be brief, though, and while he has strikeout upside, he's strictly a wait-and-see option in deeper mixed leagues for now.

Twins | Alex Meyer could debut soon

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:50:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer could be debuting for the team sooner than later. The team has "kicked around the idea" of giving him a start. Their starting pitcher for Sunday, May 1, is still to be determined.

Fantasy Tip: It makes sense for the Twins to roll with Meyer, as they just lost two of their top starting pitchers to injury in Kyle Gibson and Ervin Santana, and will be unveiling fellow top pitching prospect Jose Berrios on Wednesday. Meyer will have some solid value to offer once he arrives in Minnesota, as his home starts would be in a pitcher-friendly park, plus his pedigree indicates he could be a very useful asset in fantasy leagues. Owners should monitor his situation.

Twins | Alex Meyer officially recalled

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:39:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer was officially recalled from Class AAA Rochester Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Reiterating a previous tip, take a wait-and-see approach with Meyer. He could be worth a look in deep formats as a starter, but he is expected to be utilized out of the bullpen for now.

Twins | Alex Meyer coming up for Twins

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 11:38:16 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer will be recalled from Class AAA Rochester Monday, April 25, according to a person with direct knowledge. The Twins had a 16-inning loss Sunday, April 25, and could use help in their bullpen. Meyer had a 1.04 ERA in three outings (two starts) for Rochester after the team started transitioning him back to a starting role. He has struck out 19 and walked only four.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer had a 16.88 ERA in just 2 2/3 innings in the bigs last year. He still has potential with a hard fastball that has sinking action, but he's struggled to repeat his mechanics, which have caused him control problems. He's likely to be used strictly in relief, and he's a wait-and-see guy in deeper formats if he gets a crack at a starting rotation spot.

Twins | Alex Meyer to start in minors

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 18:30:27 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins P Alex Meyer will begin the year as a starter for Class AAA Rochester, according to general manager Terry Ryan. He had spent most of 2015 being used in a relief role. "We've reached a consensus on Alex Meyer and he's going to start because we want him to work on his pitches," Ryan said. "And that's tough to do in the pen. I'm not saying it'll be for the life of his career or even the life of the 2016 season, but that's the way we're going to start and we'll gauge it as we go."

Fantasy Tip: Meyer has minimal value in all fantasy formats and should remain undrafted. Even if he is recalled by the Twins during the regular season, it is not a guarantee that he would be used as a starter due to the club's rotation depth.
