Cardinals | Kolten Wong hitting seventh Tuesday

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 14:23:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is hitting seventh in the batting order against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Tuesday, Aug. 4. That allows OF Jason Heyward to move up to the third spot in the order.

Fantasy Tip: The lineup change will make Heyward ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) slightly more intriguing on FantasyScore tonight against DeSclafani. The opposite can be said about Wong ($5,100, 10.2% of cap), but the consequences may be minimal in the end.

Cardinals | St. Louis reworks top of the lineup

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:36:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is leading off with OF Randal Grichuk batting second and 2B Kolten Wong hitting third against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of value shifting with the swap between Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) and Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), but Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been hitting lower in the lineup of late. Grichuk stands to receieve a huge fantasy boost if he can lock into a spot closer to the top of the St. Louis lineup. All three are worth consideration for FantasyScore usage, but Rusin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a lefty with a respectable 3.38 ERA over his past seven games, including five outings at Coors Field.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong stumbles into All-Star break

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 16:24:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong has a .219/.302/.368 slash line over his past 31 games with just 11 runs, three home runs, 11 RBI and six stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has a hefty FantasyScore salary, and the juice hasn't been worth the squeeze most nights recently. Still, he boasts solid upside, and in favorable matchups is typically worth a look. At this point, though, it isn't out of the question to bench him in seasonal formats and avoid in daily contests until he heats back up.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong leaves game

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 03:45:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (hamstring) was hit by the pitch in the 11th inning Saturday, July 11, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was removed from the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny admitted Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) was lifted mainly for precautionary reasons. Since it looks like Wong won't play in the All-Star Game (he was not selected as an alternate), Wong may be rested. Keep an eye on whether he plays Sunday.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong hitting second

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:19:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (concussion) is batting second against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Friday, July 10. Wong played the final four innings of the game Thursday, July 9, which was his first appearance since suffering a mild concussion Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Over his past 20 games, Wong ($5,300 10.6% of cap) has a .250/.329/.403 slash line with seven runs, two home runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases. While the stats are nothing to shake a stick at, he isn't in his finest form and faces a daunting pitching matchup Friday. Friday likely isn't the best night to spend up for Wong at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong played Thursday

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 09:06:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (concussion) played the final four innings of the game Thursday, July 9, at second base after suffering a mild concussion earlier in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) was cleared to return to action, so it seems likely that he'll be in the starting lineup Friday night. However, he'll be facing Pittsburgh Pirates starter Gerrit Cole, and it's probably smart to avoid him until Saturday or Sunday in daily games.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong cleared

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 14:48:36 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) has cleared all of his concussion tests and is available to play Thursday, July 9, according to manager Mike Matheny. However, Wong isn't in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) doesn't have a concussion, so that's great news for his owners. He could be back in the lineup tomorrow night, but if he is, he'll be a shaky FantasyScore play against Bucs starter Gerrit Cole.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out again

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 11:57:23 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) remains out of the lineup Thursday, July 9. 3B Matt Carpenter is at second base again and 1B Mark Reynolds slides over to third base. 1B Xavier Scruggs is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is slumping and is struggling against lefties this year (.196/.265/.326). Avoid him on FantasyScore. Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) also has struggled against southpaws (.220/.324/.441) and is a dice role as a value play. Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a weak option as a source of cap relief.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong waiting to be cleared

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 15:37:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) must wait 48 hours from his initial injury before he can be cleared to play. He will undergo tests Thursday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: It's safe to say that you should avoid Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) for at least the next couple of days. There's still a chance he'll need to go on the 7-day disabled list for concussions if his tests don't check out.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong remains out

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 15:05:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) remains out of the lineup Wednesday, July 8. 3B Matt Carpenter sticks at second base, while 1B Mark Reynolds shifts across the diamond to third base, and 1B Dan Johnson is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has cooled off of late at the plate, but he still isn't a bad FantasyScore option, especially against Hammel, who has been much tougher against righties this year. Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Johnson are ones to avoid.
