Boston Red Sox P Matt Barnes is 7-2 with a 2.44 ERA with 101 strikeouts over 81 innings for Class A Greenville, but over his past three outings he has allowed 14 earned runs. Still, the future is very bright, and he was invited to the Futures Game in Kansas City Friday, July 6. He retired the final two batters of that game without incident.

The Boston Red Sox signed their top two draft picks before the deadline Monday, Aug. 15, P Matt Barnes (19th overall) and C Blake Swihart (26th). Barnes will make $1.50 million while Swihart will receive $2.50 million.
