Angels | Albert Pujols cleared to swing

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 15:43:30 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (foot) has been cleared to resume hitting off a tee, according to a team official. It was initially believed he would start doing full baseball activities in March, which would make it probable that he would start the regular season on the disabled list. The Angels are pleased with Pujols' progress, but the latest news doesn't change his overall timetable. 1B C.J. Cron will need to take on a greater role with or without Pujols this year.

Fantasy Tip: Pujols was able to reach 40 home runs last year while effectively managing his foot pain, but his average hurt his owners. With him expected to miss the start of the year and the fact that he could struggle upon his return, he's a middle-rounds target in fantasy drafts this year.

Angels | C.J. Cron launches another long fly

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 06:37:22 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during the Angels 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has 11 home runs and 31 RBI since the All-Star break with a .485 slugging percentage. His main issue offensively is his low on-base percentage, which is largely fueled by his 21.0% strikeout rate. Cron is a player on the rise, though, and he projects as a late-round target in drafts next spring. FantasyScore players should only target Cron in ripe matchups over the final week of the season.

Angels | C.J. Cron resting

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 15:10:17 -0700

Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 19, with SS Erick Aybar sliding up to hit leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) moves up shifting David Murphy ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) down to fifth. Aybar has a solid draw with Mike Pelfrey on the hill, but Aybar is hitting .175 this month and isn't a good FantasyScore start. Murphy has a .278-2-6 line this month, which really isn't much to move the needle on FantasyScore.

Angels | C.J. Cron hits homer No. 12

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 06:44:52 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron went 2-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run during the Angels' 3-2 win over the Houston Astros Saturday, Sept. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been an excellent fantasy contributor since the beginning of July. The sophomore sports a .314/.351/.548 slash line with 24 runs, 10 home runs and 33 RBI during the stretch. He is a low-end first baseman in the majority of leagues, but he presents nice cap relief at FantasyScore in favorable matchups. 2016 could be a big year for Cron, so monitor his fantasy stock over the winter.

Angels | C.J. Cron drives in five

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 05:19:15 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron went 3-for-4 with five RBI against the Texas Rangers Friday, Sept. 4. He is hitting .460 with 17 RBI against the Rangers this season.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in 11 of his last 13 games and has recorded eight RBI in his last three games. Cron could be a cheaper option to consider on FantasyScore but is not a nightly starting option.

Angels | C.J. Cron hitting in cleanup spot

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 15:55:00 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron is batting fourth as the designated hitter against Oakland Athletics SP Felix Doubront Monday, Aug. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) typically slides into the four-hole against lefties, and he lands in a great matchup Monday. Cron owns a .324/.377/.549 slash line over his past 22 games with four home runs, and he is worth a long look as a value play at FantasyScore Monday.

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 08:24:15 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron is hitting cleanup Thursday, Aug. 27, against left-handed Detroit Tigers SP Randy Wolf.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a .291-3-6 line in 86 at-bats against lefties and is a solid low-end buy on FantasyScore.

Angels | Albert Pujols resting up

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 16:32:39 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 19. 1B C.J. Cron is starting at first base and hitting fifth against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: If you're looking for a player not many others will click on FantasyScore tonight, Cron ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) might be your guy. Samardzija has surrendered 22 earned runs and five long balls in three starts over just 15 1/3 innings in August, so Cron looks tasty as a value pick tonight.

Angels | Conor Gillaspie to remain at 3B

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:33:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Conor Gillaspie will continue to be the starting third baseman with 3B David Freese (finger) on the disabled list. He's hitting just .186 in 12 games with the Angels, but he has contributed some key hits early on in his time with the team. However, it will be tough for the Angels to find room on the roster to keep Gillaspie when Freese returns in the near future. The Angels are working Gillaspie at first base, so he could take 1B C.J. Cron's roster spot until rosters expand in September.

Fantasy Tip: Gillaspie's ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) short-term value, mainly in AL-only leagues, is nearing its end. If you've been using him in those cavernous leagues, be prepared to move on. On FantasyScore, he remains a low-end daily commodity without much offensive upside.

Angels | C.J. Cron playing first base

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 11:57:56 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron will bat seventh against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Cron ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is batting .359 since July 1, with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 78 at-bats. He makes a solid play in FantasyScore this afternoon.
