Angels | C.J. Cron enters camp healthy

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 14:23:52 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron (wrist) is healthy entering spring training, after he underwent minor wrist surgery this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Cron will need to earn his playing time, but he is expected to see an extended opportunity to do so with Josh Hamilton (shoulder) unlikely for opening day. In mixed leagues, Cron is a late-round flier with power upside. He flashed potential last season slugging .548 and .552 in May and June, respectively.

Angels | Josh Hamilton unlikely for opening day

Wed, 04 Feb 2015 10:05:18 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) isn't being ruled out for opening day, but general manager Jerry Dipoto said a return by April 6 is "a little aggressive." OF Matt Joyce could replace Hamilton in left field and DH C.J. Cron could serve as the designated hitter to start the year, with OF Collin Cowgill seeing time against left-handed pitchers.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim INF Grant Green (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a lumbar strain. The Angels recalled 1B C.J. Cron from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Angels | C.J. Cron sent to Triple-A

Sat, 19 Jul 2014 15:09:22 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim DH C.J. Cron was sent to Triple-A Saturday, July 19, to make room for CL Huston Street, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. DiGiovanna believes the move is temporary and is in response to the team's need for an extra arm following the 16-inning game Friday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Cron should be removed from daily fantasy lineups for now, but don't cut him loose just yet.

Angels | C.J. Cron losing PT

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 16:04:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF C.J. Cron has continued to lose playing time to OF Raul Ibanez. Ibanez has started three straight games against righties, even though he has a slash line of .153/.257/.258 on the season. Manager Mike Scioscia said Ibanez has had some good at-bats recently and is starting to hit his stride. Cron has three hits and seven strikeouts in his last 20 at-bats and hasn't started since last Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Cron's lack of consistent playing time is frustrating and demonstrates that he should only be owned in AL-only leagues. He'll continue to see at-bats against lefties, but getting Ibanez going appears to be Scioscia's motive right now.
