Marlins | Miami unlikely to lock up Jose Fernandez

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 07:13:03 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez's camp believes he can land a deal worth $30 million annually when he becomes a free agent after the 2018 season, and the Marlins are resigned to losing him eventually. The Marlins said they are no longer receiving calls from teams interested in Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez could have an innings limit this season that hinders his upside, but he's in the SP1 conversation on draft day.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez signs one-year deal

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:27:13 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez avoided arbitration with a one-year, $2.8 million deal Friday, Jan. 15. He can earn up to $3 million based on games started.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is a legit SP1, but we need to know more about his innings limit. If he's held to 180 innings, he'll miss five starts or so and could be overvalued.

Marlins | Pessimism for Jose Fernandez deal

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 11:49:46 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez doesn't appear likely to sign a long-term extension with the team as there is no word for hope of signing a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez will be an SP1 candidate in mixed leagues this year if he's healthy and not on too strict of an innings limit.

Dodgers | Jose Fernandez still a target for Dodgers

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 13:03:20 -0800

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers SP Frankie Montas and 2B Micah Johnson are expected to be included in a trade package to acquire Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: The Marlins are said to be looking for a huge stable of prospects in exchange for their ace starter. Stay tuned for updates, but a move to a more competitive club would be a boon for Fernandez's fantasy value. Regardless of location, he is a No. 1 arm for your virtual rotation and should be targeted in the early rounds of drafts this spring.

Dodgers | Jose Fernandez on Dodgers' radar?

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 09:50:08 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez could be on the Los Angeles Dodgers' radar after their move to acquire SP Frankie Montas, 2B Micah Johnson and OF Trayce Thompson Wednesday, Dec. 16. The Marlins have sought a volume of prospects in a deal for Fernandez, and the Dodgers are among the teams with the most volume of prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is a SP1 in fantasy regardless of where he pitches, maybe outside of Coors Field.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez staying put

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:53:36 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez is not being traded at the winter meetings this week, according to president Michael Hill.

Fantasy Tip: It was a long shot all along for Fernandez to be traded, and the Marlins were essentially asking teams for unrealistic packages in return. So it looks like he'll remain in South Beach, and he'll be one of the first few pitchers off the board in fantasy drafts after he remained dominant after returning from Tommy John last year.

Rangers | Texas whiffing on starting pitching

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 11:05:57 -0800

The Texas Rangers haven't had any luck targeting starting pitchers on the trade market, notably for Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller, Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez and Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly.

Fantasy Tip: The hot stove season is far from over, so anything can still happen. Stay tuned. Typically, a starting pitcher that moves to Globe Life Park and the hitter-friendly environment loses a few pegs on his fantasy value.

Yankees | NY willing to deal Luis Severino

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:03:02 -0800

The New York Yankees are willing to trade SP Luis Severino in a package that would land them Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. However, the belief is that the Yankees don't have enough pieces to snag Fernandez, even if they include 1B Greg Bird.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is an elite young arm that won't come cheaply for any team, and it's unlikely that he's dealt. Severino has gigantic upside as a strikeout artist, too, and he can be had for much cheaper in fantasy drafts next spring.

Giants | SF talking about Jose Fernandez

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 09:53:36 -0800

The San Francisco Giants have been talking about a trade for Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez, but Marlins people continue to say they have little interest in dealing their ace. Marlins president Michael Hill is suggesting that Fernandez is "not available," but is willing to listen to overwhelming offers. Miami is asking for so much in return that other teams believe he's unavailable.

Fantasy Tip: Any trade for Fernandez is highly unlikely, but crazier things have happened at the winter meetings, so stay tuned this week. Fernandez bounced back nicely from Tommy John last year in a short season and was as dominant as ever, so he'll once again be one of the first few pitchers off the board in fantasy drafts next year, regardless of where he's pitching.

Marlins | Mystery team in fold for Jose Fernandez

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 08:48:27 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez has had a mystery team enter the bidding for his services, and sources are now saying it's no longer unlikely he is traded. The Houston Astros are believed to be the team, but neither side would confirm.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez is a stud SP1 regardless of where he pitches.
