Marlins | Jose Fernandez throws well Thursday

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 13:56:41 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (biceps) had a terrific bullpen session Thursday, Aug. 27, and has a chance to rejoin the team in the middle of September, according to manager Dan Jennings.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($8,200, 16.4% of cap) appears to be making good progress in his recovery and could pitch again in a few weeks. Fernandez could make a few starts before the end of the season but may not be the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez back in September?

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:46:25 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (biceps) could return to the rotation in mid-September, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for fantasy owners that have waited this long for Fernandez ($8,200, 16.4% of cap) to return, and he could get two to three starts before the fantasy season ends. Fernandez could be on a pitch count in the early starts, minimizing his value on FantasyScore, but he would be a must-start in yearly formats.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez to throw bullpen Thursday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:02:43 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (biceps) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Aug. 27, and he may just need one simulated game before he's activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: With Fernandez's ($8,200, 16.4% of cap) return looming, still be mindful that he won't have many starts down the stretch to significantly impact your fantasy pitching staff, but he can definitely help a push for a championship. He'll likely remain a top-tier starter on FantasyScore when he's back, too.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez expects to be back

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 13:33:17 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (biceps) said he plans on pitching again this year.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez's ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) injury really hurts his fantasy owners down the stretch. With the Marlins out of contention, there's no guarantee they rush him back to pitch in the season's final month. You have to hang onto him in all formats, though. Justin Nicolino, one of the team's top young arms, is making his debut tonight. Add him in all keeper and NL-only leagues, but take a wait-and-see approach in mixed formats.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez to DL

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 12:37:35 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (bicep) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained bicep tendon. SP Justin Nicolino was recalled from Class AAA New Orleans to take his place, and Nicolino will start Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) should be immediately stashed away for keeper and dynasty leagues, as he may even be back before the season. Nicolino went 1-1 during his time with the Marlins in June, so watch how he does before you use him in your league. He is one of the Marlins' top prospects.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez has bicep strain

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 15:21:08 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (muscle) has been diagnosed with a strain in his right bicep tendon. He will likely be placed on the disabled list, and there is no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) was off to a 4-0 start before the injury, which likely won't cost him a huge chunk of time like the Tommy John surgery he had in 2014. There is hope he could return this season. For now, take Fernandez out of your lineup but stash him in keeper/dynasty leagues.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez having shoulder checked

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 14:43:29 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (shoulder) was sent back to Miami to have his right shoulder examined after complaining of stiffness.

Fantasy Tip: Expect the team to be extremely cautious with Fernandez. At $9,600 (19.2% of cap), avoid him on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez has owned Atlanta

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 10:01:19 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez is 3-1 with a 0.93 ERA and a .130 opponent's average in four career starts against the Atlanta Braves, and he's gone 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA in his last three starts against them.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez's ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) dominance against the Braves should continue tonight, as Atlanta owns the 28th-ranked OPS since the All-Star break (.631) and Freddie Freeman is on the DL again. It's worth paying up for Fernandez on FantasyScore tonight.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez solid again

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 19:00:54 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six over six innings in a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) didn't earn the win, but he has still impressed in three starts since returning from elbow surgery. He owns a 2.38 ERA and has fanned 21 batters in 19 innings. He offers the potential for ace-caliber production at FantasyScore at a slightly discounted price.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez starting Friday

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 16:11:50 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez will start Friday, July 17, against the Philadelphia Phillies. SP Tom Koehler will start Saturday and SP Dan Haren will start Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) has picked up two straight wins since his return from Tommy John surgery, but he was most impressive in his last outing when he went seven scoreless innings while striking out nine Cincinnati Reds. The matchup is perfect for Fernandez, and he's likely to be one of the most owned pitchers.
