Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) said his elbow ligament came off the bone after his last outing against the San Diego Padres May 9, in which he altered his delivery to account for the pain he was pitching with. "I was trying not to let anybody see that I was in a little pain," he said. Fernandez plans to return to Los Angeles next week to have his cast and stitches removed before starting his rehab.

Fantasy Tip: You can obviously drop Fernandez in redraft leagues. Keeper leaguers will be forced to hold Fernandez and deal with what could be mostly a lost season in 2015, as well. Anthony DeSclafini will fill the Fish's rotation spot initially, but prospects Brian Flynn and Andrew Heaney are the most alluring candidates to get some rotation time later this summer.

Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Tuesday, May 13, that SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) has a "significant tear" to the ulnar collateral ligament, and the club and Fernandez are still weighing Tommy John surgery. The recovery time for this type of injury is typically 12 to 18 months.

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) has been diagnosed with a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm and has been told he should undergo surgery. Fernandez is scheduled to meet with team doctor Lee Kaplan to see if he agrees with the diagnosis and also recommends surgery.
