Houston Astros OF George Springer is hitting second in the lineup Wednesday, April 16, in his season debut.
Fantasy Tip: Springer is a five-tool talent that can make an immediate impact for fantasy squads. Start him immediately if you were lucky to pick him up.

The Houston Astros will recall OF George Springer from Triple-A Oklahoma City before the game Wednesday, April 16.
Fantasy Tip: Springer was hitting .353 with three homers and nine RBIs at Triple-A and was likely drafted in a lot of leagues. He hit .303 with 37 homers, 108 RBIs and 45 steals between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Oklahoma last season. He needs to be picked up immediately in all formats.

The Major League Baseball Players Association and Houston Astros OF George Springer's agent, Greg Genske, are considering pursuing recourse over the matter of Springer's service time. Genske and the union have not decided what action they will take, if any. Springer turned down a seven-year contract from the Astros, and they later sent him to the minors to start the season, perhaps in part because of worries over his service time.

Houston Astros OF George Springer was offered a seven-year, $23 million contract last September, according to major league sources. However, he rejected the offer, according to sources, as he declined to give up three years of arbitration and one year of free agency.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said OF George Springer will play in the big leagues this season, but he may not be in the lineup on Opening Day April 1. "I think George Springer will be a starting outfielder in Houston this year," Luhnow said. "Whether it happens Opening Day or sometime during the season, he's a special talent." Springer hit .303 with a .411 on-base percentage and 37 home runs, 45 stolen bases and 83 walks with Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Oklahoma City last year. Springer will have to win a starting job, and the presence of OF Dexter Fowler will likely push Springer to right field.

Houston Astros OF George Springer was named the Texas League Player of the Year, and SP David Martinez was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Year.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Springer, one of baseball's top prospects, to join the club sometime next month; he's a deep-mixed add even before he comes up. Martinez is a fringe prospect that fantasy owners shouldn't rush to consider acquiring in dynasty leagues.

The Kansas City Royals have acquired OF Justin Maxwell from the Kansas City Royals, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Maxwell joins a crowded outfield. David Lough and Lorenzo Cain (groin) have been receiving most of the playing time recently, and that seems unlikely to change because of this deal, unless Cain's injury turns out to be serious. Jarrod Dyson is also a factor, though. It's unclear yet what KC gave up. The odds increase that prospect George Springer will debut for Houston in 2013.

The Houston Astros have promoted prospects SP Jarred Cosart and SS Jonathan Villar recently. Top prospects OF George Springer and 1B Jonathan Singleton remain at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but they are expected to join the Astros during the final 65 games of a season devoted to player development and evaluation.
Fantasy Tip: For now, Springer and Singleton are only worth roster spots in the deepest of long-term fantasy keeper leagues, and they'll be worth adding in AL-only leagues if and when they are summoned.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said OF George Springer will likely stay at Triple-A Oklahoma City throughout the minor league season. However, he could be a September call-up.
Fantasy Tip: This isn't a huge surprise, although things could change between now and then. Springer should probably be owned in dynasty leagues at this point, and he might become a mixed league commodity if he's in the bigs later this year.
