Astros | No surgery for George Springer

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 11:30:00 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) will not need surgery for his non-displaced fracture of his wrist, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. Springer will have a checkpoint at the two-week mark and one at the six-week mark on his wrist. Luhnow thinks Springer would be cleared to resume baseball activities at the six-week mark.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as though Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) won't be back until at least September for the final month of the regular season. That's a significant chunk lost for his fantasy owners. At least in the short term, Domingo Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is worth a look for outfield depth in deep mixed and AL leagues, as he'll likely see an increase in value with consistent at-bats.

Astros | George Springer put on DL

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 10:37:21 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) was placed on the disabled list with a right wrist fracture Thursday, July 2. OF Alex Presley was called up from Class AAA Fresno in a corresponding roster move.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough blow for both the Astros and Springer's ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) fantasy owners, especially since this serious injury could cost Springer most, if not all, of the rest of the season. Hold him until we have a firm timetable on a possible return. Domingo Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is likely to have an everyday role in the outfield now, and he's an acceptable add in deep mixed and AL leagues.

Astros | George Springer likely to DL

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 00:22:20 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (wrist) is likely to land on the 15-day disabled list after he was hit on the right wrist by a pitch Wednesday, July 1. Manager A.J. Hinch said he's not optimistic Springer can avoid the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Jake Marisnick (hamstring) just began a rehab assignment, and he'll probably take Springer's vacancy in the outfield. At $3,300 (6.6% of cap), he'll be a matchup play on FantasyScore. As for Springer, stash him in all formats.

Astros | Colby Rasmus out Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 14:06:56 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (illness) will miss his fourth straight game due to a skin infection. OF George Springer is playing in center field in Rasmus's absence, and OF Domingo Santana is in right.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) should be shelved until he is back to 100 percent health. Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has cooled a bit after a hotter June start but is not a bad substitute pickup in FantasyScore with a .250 mark in the past week.

Astros | Colby Rasmus remains out

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:26:52 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (illness) is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Joe Blanton Monday, June 29. OF George Springer will start in center field and is batting first, while OF Domingo Santana will start in right field and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see when Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will be able to return to the lineup. Santana ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has recorded at least one hit in four of his last five games has picked up six RBI this month. Santana could be a cheap outfield option, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find a better option.

Astros | Carlos Correa continues hot start

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 15:43:39 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa has nine doubles and five homers in just 20 games. He's the first player in franchise history to have nine doubles in his first 20 games and joins Rusty Staub, George Springer and Jeff Bagwell as the only players in Houston history to reach safely in at least 18 of their first 20 games.

Fantasy Tip: Correa ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has been everything the Astros wanted and then some. He is a must-start in all FantasyScore and other formats.

Astros | George Springer resting Wednesday

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 10:47:02 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 24. OF Preston Tucker draws the start in left field and is hitting third against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Andrew Heaney.

Fantasy Tip: Recommending Tucker ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) against a left-handed hurler is hard to do, even if he is hitting .282 (11-for-39) in a small sample size. Look elsewhere.

Astros | George Springer's streak up to 14 games

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 18:41:55 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, June 21, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Fantasy Tip: Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) struggled with his consistency to start the year, but he is hitting .458 with four home runs, seven RBI and 12 runs scored during the streak. Throw in his combination of speed and power, and Springer is a strong No. 2 outfielder at FantasyScore.

Astros | George Springer hits 11th homer

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 06:09:37 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer hit his 11th home run of the season during the Astros' 5-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners Friday, June 19. Springer went 1-for-3 in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past month, Springer ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has been extremely consistent and boasts a .374/.433/.574 slash line with 19 runs, eight doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases over his last 29 games. Leading off hinders his RBI upside, but it helps him in the stolen bases department. He is a solid No. 2 outfielder in all formats.
