Cubs | Three hits for Javier Baez

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 00:13:24 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez came up with three hits Monday, July 25, in a 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is at .285-9-33 with eight stolen bases, and he joins the litany of Cubs that are worth their weight in gold in daily and regular formats. He plays often enough to merit consideration in both.

Cubs | Willson Contreras, Javier Baez starting

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:15:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Willson Contreras is starting in left field and batting fifth, and INF Javier Baez is starting at second base and batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: With an option to utilize a designated hitter Monday, Chicago can plug both youngsters into the lineup. Contreras is a capable starting catcher in all formats given his .277/.372/.482 slash line, and Baez is a rising fantasy talent. The fielding wizard has also held his own at the dish with 29 runs, nine home runs, 33 RBI, eight stolen bases and a .285/.327/.452 slash line over 254 plate appearances.

Yankees | Four players in proposed Chapman deal

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 07:41:10 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs SS Gleyber Torres, RP Adam Warren and two others are in the proposed deal for New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman. OF Jorge Soler and 2B Javier Baez are not among them.

Fantasy Tip: If Chapman lands with the Cubs, it's hard to see him setting up for Hector Rondon, who would lose a lot of fantasy luster. Chapman's numbers are stellar as usual, and he's an elite RP in fantasy regardless. The Yankees are expected to wait four or five days to decide whether to move RP Andrew Miller. If Miller stays, he could be in line to return to the closer role. If he is also dealt, Dellin Betances isn't a bad fallback option. Both remain must-owns in any scenario, but Miller could be in line for a big fantasy uptick if he isn't dealt.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella leading off vs. Brewers

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:10:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella is starting at second base and leading off against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra Sunday, July 24. INF Javier Baez is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella is nothing more than a cavernous mixed and NL-only option, but he's packed punch when given an opportunity with a .273/.363/.434 slash line. He's a nice target in daily contests Sunday, albeit probably a popular one. Baez is worth owning in all seasonal leagues, and he is receiving enough playing time to provide five-category production as a low-end starter.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler back in leadoff spot

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:08:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is back off the disabled list and is hitting leadoff against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Friday, July 22. As a result, 2B/OF Javier Baez will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler hasn't played in a major league game in over a month, so it's understandable to be hesitant to throw him back into starting lineups immediately. But keep in mind he's been great for fantasy owners with his .290/.398/.483 slash line, seven homers, 41 runs, 28 RBI and six steals. Baez will bounce around as a utility player, but solid playing time may be harder to come by now.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella leading off

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 11:23:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Tommy La Stella is starting at third base and is hitting leadoff against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard Tuesday, July 19. 2B/OF Javier Baez will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella has been serviceable for the Cubbies in a utility role this year with a .263/.352/.432 slash line and two homers and seven RBI in 45 games. A move to leadoff boosts his daily value slightly, but he's still more of a sleeper DFS option against Thor this evening.

Cubs | Javier Baez producing

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 11:33:27 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/OF Javier Baez has scored or driven in a run in 14 of his last 17 games with an at-bat and is hitting .346 with four doubles and two home runs in his last 15 games.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is hitting leadoff again Monday night against a lefty, so he's a great addition to any fantasy lineup. The versatile infielder/outfielder has power and speed to burn and can easily fill up the stat sheet on any given night.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist, Jason Heyward out

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 11:27:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Ben Zobrist and OF Jason Heyward are not in the starting lineup against New York Mets left-handed SP Steven Matz Monday, July 18. 2B Javier Baez is starting at second base and hitting leadoff again, while OF Matt Szczur is starting in right field and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist is out for the second straight day against a lefty, but Joe Maddon wants to give him extra rest following the All-Star break. Baez is a nice power-speed guy that has added value in daily formats today against the lefty. He's batting .353 with four of his nine homers off southpaws. Szczur has potential, too, but is more of a sleeper candidate in DFS.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist, Miguel Montero out

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 10:40:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Ben Zobrist and C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Sunday, July 17. SS Javier Baez will start at second base and is batting first. 3B Kris Bryant will start at third base, while C Willson Contreras will start at catcher. OF Matt Szczur will start in left field and is batting seventh. OF Albert Almora is starting in center field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Szczur has at least one hit in each of his last three games and can be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Almora is hitting only .217 this month and probably can be avoided by most fantasy owners.

Cubs | Javier Baez sitting out

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 07:37:11 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish Saturday, July 16. 3B Tommy La Stella will start at third base and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella has only one hit in his last 12 at-bats and is not a strong option in most fantasy leagues.
