Cubs | Javier Baez in the lineup

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 08:34:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez is hitting sixth Friday, April 29, in place of 3B Kris Bryant (ankle). 2B Ben Zobrist is hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: Baez draws the start over streaking Tommy La Stella. Baez is hitting .308 with a homer in 26 at-bats this year and isn't a bad flyer against Aaron Blair in his second career start. Zobrist is hitting .308 with three RBI the last seven days. He's a decent midrange start today.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella starting vs. Brewers

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 12:26:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Tommy La Stella is starting at third base and batting sixth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Wednesday, April 27. 2B Javier Baez and OF Jorge Soler are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Le Stella is 8-for-22 to start the season with four extra-base hits, five runs and three RBI. His fantasy ownership should be limited to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats because of his lack of playing time, but when he's in the lineup, there is upside. He provides excellent value at a low salary in daily contests, too.

Cubs | Javier Baez goes deep

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 19:29:25 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, an RBI and three runs scored in an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: The lack of regular playing time can make him a frustrating player to own, but his upside makes him worth a roster spot, especially in deeper leagues.

Cubs | Javier Baez in lineup Friday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 12:14:19 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez will start at third base and bat sixth in the starting lineup Friday, April 22, opposite Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot.

Fantasy Tip: It's always interesting when Baez draws a start, as he still has a lot of untapped potential. The problem is, he doesn't get regular playing time in that loaded Cubs lineup. Nonetheless, he might be someone to target in daily games tonight. Moscot was pretty good in his season debut on Sunday, holding his own against Michael Wacha on the road, but he's not an overpowering pitcher, and Baez could be one of the hitters who capitalizes.

Cubs | Two Cubs sitting out

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 08:11:36 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell and OF Jorge Soler are out of the lineup Wednesday, April 20. OF Tommy La Stella is hitting sixth, and SS Javier Baez is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is 4-for-9 (.444) on the young season, and albeit a small sample size, he's 2-for-3 lifetime against Carlos Martinez. He's worth the low-end start today, while La Stella doesn't pack the punch for a spot start.

Cubs | Addison Russell resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:28:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Sunday, April 17. INF Javier Baez will play shortstop and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Baez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in his return from the disabled list Saturday, April 17. Despite not having a regular position, the 23-year-old should be owned in most fantasy formats due to his positional versatility and upside stemming from his combination of power and speed.

Cubs | Javier Baez impressive in season debut

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 14:28:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez made his first start of the season on Saturday, April 16, since being activated from the disabled list, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Fantasy Tip: Baez still doesn't a clear path to start at any position, but his versatility should allow him to be a regular spot-starter at a number of different positions until one of the regular Cubs suffers an injury. The 23-year-old should be owned in all leagues and has the power/speed potential to be a difference-maker in fantasy should he become a full-time player at some point this season.

Cubs | Javier Baez starting at second base

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:33:59 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez is batting fifth and starting at second base against Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman Saturday, April 16. 2B/OF Ben Zobrist is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is receiving his first start since being activated from the disabled list and should be strongly considered for daily fantasy lineups this afternoon due to his power-speed combination and favorable lineup slot.

Cubs | Javier Baez activated off DL

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 09:15:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez (thumb) was activated off the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 15. Additionally, SS Munenori Kawasaki was optioned to the Class AAA Iowa Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: The Cubs are just oozing talented youngsters and Baez is one of the seemingly forgotten ones. While he hasn't done much in his 80 games of major league experience, the 23-year-old has a ton of upside and warrants a spot on rosters in just about all leagues. Meanwhile, the demoted Kawasaki, as entertaining as he may be, isn't an option in any formats.

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez (thumb) will be activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 15, with 2B Munenori Kawasaki headed to the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Baez has big power and will be an attractive DFS flyer in good matchups.
