Chicago Cubs SS Javier Baez went 2-for-4 at the plate for Triple-A Iowa Monday, June 23, and he has gone 7-for-20 in his last five games.
Fantasy Tip: After hitting just .172 in April, Baez has slowly been finding his footing. That being said, he will have to show he can sustain his recent success to have any shot at getting called up before late in the season.

Chicago Cubs SS Javier Baez is hitting .223 with 10 homers and 35 RBIs in 211 at-bats at Triple-A Iowa.
Fantasy Tip: Baez could still come up to cover an injury before September, but he needs to have a stretch of three or four weeks where he tears the cover off the ball.

Chicago Cubs SS Javier Baez is hitting .219 with seven homers and 25 RBIs at Triple-A Iowa and is in a 1-for-12 slump.

Chicago Cubs RP Blake Parker has been very impressed with SS Javier Baez and 2B Arismendy Alcantara at Triple-A Iowa. Baez is hitting just .225 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs. "I think he's handling it real well," Parker said of Baez. "Early in the season, I think he had high expectations for himself. He wanted to do a whole lot for the team; he always wants to produce for the team. He's staying within himself now and he's producing for us and doing what he's supposed to be doing."

The Chicago Cubs have reassigned SS Javier Baez to minor league camp. He will begin the season at Triple-A Iowa.
Fantasy Tip: The Cubs are sticking to their plan of giving Baez more seasoning in the minors, despite his impressive showing in the Cactus League (.310 with five home runs). Manager Rick Renteria would like to see him become more patient at the plate, after he went the entire spring without taking a walk, and he is expected to get the bulk of his playing time at Iowa at shortstop, despite the presence at the big-league level of Starlin Castro. He is projected to reach the majors later this season and should be stashed away on your bench.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SS Javier Baez (heel) left the game with a right heel contusion Friday, March 21.
Fantasy Tip: It seems like a pretty minor injury and shouldn't keep him out of action for long. Check back for more details.

Chicago Cubs SS Javier Baez (undisclosed) left the game early Friday, March 21, after stepping awkwardly on first base after an infield single. He entered the game with five home runs this spring, and he also leads the team with 13 hits and 31 total bases. The team refuses to say whether Baez will open the year on the big league roster.
Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for the extent of Baez's injury. From all accounts, it doesn't appear to be too serious, but it could be the difference between Baez starting the year in the minors and breaking camp on the active roster.

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (hamstring) is close to returning to spring action, and the team is confident that he'll be ready to play on opening day. "Did all his running (Thursday)," manager Rick Renteria said. "Ran all the bases. Today was a day off from the running but (he's) fielding and hitting. We'll see how he feels at the end of the day and go from there." Renteria said he's not even thinking about a backup plan at shortstop. The Cubs have nine spring games remaining, but Castro could see action on the minor league side to get at-bats.
Fantasy Tip: Castro could be in for another slow start in the regular season as he gets his legs back under him. Keep that in mind. Javier Baez doesn't look to be a backup plan at shortstop, however, but the Cubbies could decide he gives them a better option at second or third base to start the season.
