Cardinals | Greg Garcia leading off vs. Nats

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:11:01 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Greg Garcia is starting at third base and leading off against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has been great when given a chance this season. He has started out 7-for-11, however, it is a small sample size, and facing Max Scherzer is a daunting task. View Garcia as a risky flier in daily contests Friday, albeit one with some upside setting the table for a solid lineup. Matt Carpenter projects to return from the paternity list Saturday, May 28, which will return Garcia to a bench role.

Cardinals | Greg Garcia receiving rare start

Thu, 26 May 2016 13:53:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Greg Garcia is starting at third base and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Thursday, May 26, with 3B Matt Carpenter on the paternity list.

Fantasy Tip: View Garcia as a desperation source of cap relief in daily contests Thursday, as he has just 120 career plate appearances. However, he has been solid when called upon this year with a 6-for-10 start to the season.

Cardinals | Ruben Tejada activated

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 10:37:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, April 18, and 2B Greg Garcia was optioned to Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: It's not clear if Tejada will see the majority of the playing time at the 6 with Aledmys Diaz (.406-2-8) impressive in the early going in Tejada's absence. Diaz has the higher fantasy ceiling with Tejada being more of a defensive specialist, so if you picked up Diaz off the waiver wire already, sit tight and see how St. Louis divides the playing time. Tejada's arrival will also hurt Jedd Gyorko's playing time.

Cardinals | St. Louis resting five players

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:56:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker, OF Matt Holliday, C Yadier Molina, 2B Kolten Wong and SS Aledmys Diaz are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot Sunday, April 17. 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and is batting second. 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and is batting sixth. SS Greg Garcia is starting at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer starting at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Fryer and Garcia have played well early this season but probably should not be options in most leagues. Moss, Adams and Gyorko could be used in daily fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Greg Garcia playing shortstop

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 08:54:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals INF Greg Garcia will bat eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia is 2-for-3 with a double and a home run this season and should be viewed as a value play in daily fantasy contests.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta in cast for six weeks

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:07:17 -0800

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) will be in a cast four to six weeks before he starts a rehab process after having surgery on his thumb Thursday, March 10, and his rehab will take an additional month. The Cardinals are prepared to be without him until June at the earliest. St. Louis isn't chasing outside help at the position and are evaluating SS Aledmys Diaz, 2B Greg Garcia and 2B Jedd Gyorko.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta has always been an undervalued commodity at the 6, and he still might be worth stashing in really deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Gyorko is the front-runner at the position in the meantime if his defense holds up. He's worth a look in the latter part of deep mixed drafts. Diaz is probably an NL-only target if he wins the job this spring.

Cardinals | Cards have three SS candidates

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 17:50:24 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Jedd Gyorko, 2B Greg Garcia and SS Aledmys Diaz are the three internal candidates to replace SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) at shortstop to begin the season. However, the Cardinals won't be afraid to look outside the organization if they want an improvement. Gyorko has made only 28 career starts at shortstop, and all came last year. Garcia is a known quantity, but St. Louis has hesitations about him as an everyday player.

Fantasy Tip: The battle is likely between Gyorko and Diaz. Gyorko has the upper hand if he proves efficient defensively, but that's a big if. Gyorko might be worth late-round speculation for his power upside, and Diaz would be more of an NL-only candidate if he wins the starting job.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta resting

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:23:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with SS Greg Garcia hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) hasn't done much in limited playing time. Sit him on FantasyScore against Shelby Miller.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta sitting Sunday

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 10:48:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta is not starting Sunday, Sept. 27, against the Milwaukee Brewers. SS Greg Garcia is in Peralta's place and is hitting seventh against Brewers SP Tyler Cravy.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a hot .391 average in the last week, and he has started 11 games in a row. This appears to be a normal off day. Don't be surprised if he pinch-hits. Garcia ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has little, if any, FantasyScore value.

Cardinals | No Kolten Wong Friday

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 16:40:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 25. 2B Greg Garcia is starting at second base and is batting seventh against Milwaukee Brewers SP Ariel Pena.

Fantasy Tip: There are much better options to choose from at second base than Garcia ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) tonight on FantasyScore.
