Houston Astros 2B Jose Altuve recorded a career-high four hits in a winning effort Wednesday, April 25, and OF J.D. Martinez had three hits and three RBIs. Altuve scored three runs and drove in one to raise his average to .377. Martinez is hitting .313 on the year.

Houston Astros 2B Jose Altuve already has five walks in 58 plate appearances this year after he had just five walks in 234 plate appearances last season. OF Jordan Schafer entered Sunday, April 22, ranked fifth in the National League with 10 walks, and he has reached safely in the team's first 15 games this year. However, he's also third in the league with 19 strikeouts. "I've been walking and striking out a lot more, but that's just a product of me taking more pitches," Schafer said. "I've been behind in the counts and just taking more pitches. It's nothing I'm trying to do on purpose. Maybe if I'm more aggressive, I wouldn't walk as much."

The Houston Astros allowed 2B Jose Altuve to rack up 273 at-bats and finish the season with Magallanes in the Venezuelan League for winter ball. "He's having a great experience and it will benefit him next year here in Houston," general manager Jeff Luhnow said. He'll head into the new season atop the depth chart at second base.
