Rockies | Nolan Arenado has second two-homer game

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 15:00:46 -0700

Colorado Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado enjoyed his second multi-home run effort of the week on Sunday, April 17, connecting on a solo shot off Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester in the fourth inning before doing it again off RP Justin Grimm in the ninth.

Fantasy Tip: The homers proved to be the only runs scored by either club as Tyler Chatwood outdueled Lester in a pitchers' duel at Wrigley Field. Arenado's other power display came against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field on Wednesday, when he finished with four hits and seven RBI. The 2015 All-Star leads the majors with 16 RBI and has easily lived up to his first-round fantasy draft status thus far.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta to be tendered

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:46:10 -0800

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta is expected to be tendered a contract by the deadline Wednesday, Dec. 2. SP Travis Wood, RPs Pedro Strop, Hector Rondon, Justin Grimm, Ryan Cook and Rex Brothers and OF Chris Coghlan are also expected to be tendered. Arrieta will be a free agent after the 2017 season, and the Cubs are interested in a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: After Arrieta's Cy Young season in 2015, he'll surely be very expensive in fantasy baseball drafts next spring. He has now risen to the elite level of starting pitchers, and you'll have to spend an early round pick to secure him.

Cubs | Justin Grimm dominating in relief role

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 06:31:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Justin Grimm pitched a scoreless seventh inning during the Cubs' 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, Aug. 29. The outing extended his scoreless inning steak to 15.

Fantasy Tip: Grimm owns high-end ratios for the season, and he can help in the majority of seasonal formats. He is locked into a high-leverage role with the Cubs and also has two wins and three saves for the season. Don't overlook how beneficial a 1.17 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and a 12.4 K/9 can be in boosting your rotation's numbers.

Cubs | Justin Grimm notches save

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 21:05:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Justin Grimm recorded the final out against the New York Mets to pick up his first save of the season Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Although Chicago has been using a committee to close games, don't read too much into Grimm's performance Wednesday. The game went 11 innings, and it is unlikely Grimm will see many save chances under normal situations.

Cubs | Jose Veras set for rehab assignment

Fri, 02 May 2014 11:50:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Jose Veras (oblique) is scheduled to start his rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee very soon, but it's unknown if he'll return as the team's closer when he's ready. RP Hector Rondon has emerged as a closer candidate with Veras out, and the other options are RPs Pedro Strop and Justin Grimm.

Fantasy Tip: Veras doesn't belong on a mixed league roster right now unless you're using him up in a DL spot. When he's ready to return, he'll probably have to prove that he deserves a shot in the ninth inning again and by then, one of the other relievers on roster may have staked a claim.

Cubs | Won't sign big free-agent pitchers

Wed, 22 Jan 2014 12:52:31 -0800

The Chicago Cubs could still look to add to their stable of starting pitchers, but they've made it clear they won't go for one of the big remaining free-agent pitchers on the market, including free-agent SP Matt Garza (Rangers). Ps Justin Grimm, Kyle Hendricks and Chris Rusin could be candidates to compete for a rotation spot if nobody else is added. The Cubs also will not re-sign Scott Baker. Free-agent SPs Paul Maholm (Braves) and Jason Hammel (Orioles) have been linked to Chicago.

Cubs | Justin Grimm could stay in bullpen

Sat, 14 Sep 2013 23:27:41 -0700

The Chicago Cubs have liked what they have seen out of P Justin Grimm since he came over from the Texas Rangers. The Cubs put him in the bullpen, where he has prospered, so the team may leave him in relief for 2014.
