The New York Mets recalled INF Vinny Rottino from Triple-A Buffalo Monday, May 21, and optioned SP Chris Schwinden to Buffalo in a corresponding move.

The New York Mets have placed SP Miguel Batista (back) on the 15-day disabled list because of a minor muscle pull in his lower back. In a corresponding move, SP Chris Schwinden has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.

New York Mets SP Chris Schwinden is unlikely to receive a third start in the rotation. The three realistic options to take the spot are Ps Jeremy Hefner, Garrett Olson and Miguel Batista. Hefner and Olson are both pitching at Class AAA. Ps Zack Wheeler, Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia are not options.

New York Mets SP Chris Schwinden gave up six hits and five runs in four innings in the loss against the Houston Astros in his second start this year Wednesday, May 2. He only lasted four innings in his last start, too. Manager Terry Collins wouldn't say if Schwinden will keep his spot in the rotation. He walked two and struck out only one while allowing two home runs.

New York Mets SP Chris Young (shoulder) threw a 75-pitch simulated game Monday, April 30, but he won't go on a minor league rehab assignment yet, as the team doesn't want to rush him along. His fastball was around 85 mph Monday. There is no real replacement for SP Chris Schwinden in the rotation until Young is ready.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday, April 27, that the team will use SP Chris Schwinden Wednesday, May 2, against the Houston Astros. Collins felt Schwinden pitched well until he and the team unraveled in an 11-run fifth inning against the Colorado Rockies Friday.

P Jeremy Hefner isn't eligible after being sent down and SP Chris Young (shoulder) is two weeks away from a minor league rehab start.
