Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer averaged 92.8 mph in four starts in the majors last season, but in two innings Sunday, March 2, in Cactus League action, his fastball was around 93-96 mph, with one pitch clocked at 98 mph, according to a National League scout in attendance.
Fantasy Tip: Bauer is in the mix for a back-end rotation job. Those in AL-only drafts, deeper mixed formats and certainly long-term keeper leagues will want to roster him immediately. He could very well emerge as a must-start in all fantasy formats if he gets off to a good start, as he has a ton of upside and plenty of strikeout potential.

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco is competing with Ps Trevor Bauer, Aaron Harang and Josh Tomlin for the fifth spot in the rotation. SP Shaun Marcum (shoulder) also might join the battle when healthy. General manager Chris Antonetti said Carrasco is already on the club, whether it's in the bullpen or in the rotation, hoping that will relax the pitcher who is out of options. "He felt like he was pitching for his major league life," manager Terry Francona said of Carrasco before. "He knew there a chance he'd go to Triple-A." Carrasco has made some adjustments to his delivery to give him more deception.
Fantasy Tip: Carrasco has a live arm, and could be a boon to fantasy owners in the strikeouts department if he could win a job, pitch effectively and stay healthy. All of those things have been a problem in parts of five seasons in the majors to this point.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona has noticed a drastic difference in SP Trevor Bauer's delivery this spring that has put him in a better position to throw strikes and stay healthy. "I think we're really excited. Again, he hasn't faced a hitter yet, but he looked like a different pitcher. That was nice to see," Francona said. Bauer will be competing with SPs Josh Tomlin and Carlos Carrasco for the last rotation spot in spring training.

Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer has made mechanical adjustments this offseason that have impressed the coaching staff. "He's kind of getting back to his old delivery," pitching coach Mickey Callaway said. "It looks really good. It looked like his command is getting better and there's some more deception. I would say it's a more refined delivery. It's the same mechanics but a little more refined, and it looks a little more repeatable. It's a little less violent."

The fifth starter job for the Cleveland Indians is expected to be very competitive in spring training. SPs Carlos Carrasco, Josh Tomlin, Trevor Bauer and Shaun Marcum are among the candidates for the job. Carrasco and Tomlin also can work out of the bullpen.

Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer will start Game 1 of the club's doubleheader on Friday, June 28, against the Chicago White Sox. SP Carlos Carrasco will throw in Game 2.
Fantasy Tip: As expected. Carrasco probably has an edge to stick around based on the fact that he was one spot up the depth chart from Bauer. The Tribe has the option to change the arrangement, though, if they feel that Bauer is prepared to contribute every fifth day. They'll probably keep it status quo for now, though.
