Mariners | Danny Hultzen may have labrum issue

Tue, 24 Sep 2013 17:14:47 -0700

Updating a previous item, Seattle Mariners SP Danny Hultzen (shoulder) will receive a second opinion on his injured left shoulder next week. Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the team's physician, didn't like what he saw on the initial visit. "Ed saw him and quite frankly he doesn't like what he sees," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "He saw some damage that he was unhappy with. It's not the rotator cuff. It's the tendon area, labrum area."

Fantasy Tip: This is bad news for one of the team's most promising pitching prospects. If he needs surgery on his labrum, he'll likely be lost for most, if not all, of next season.

Mariners | Danny Hultzen remains shut down

Wed, 10 Jul 2013 11:40:08 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Danny Hultzen (shoulder) will remain shut down for another 10 days as he continues to recover from irritation in his left shoulder, according to general manager Jack Zduriencik. The GM expects him to begin a throwing program sometime after that. Zduriencik also stated that the organization will look to make some adjustments to Hultzen's routine and mechanics. He expects the pitching prospect to pitch again this season.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners obviously can't expect Hultzen to debut this season. Hopefully, the M's don't do anything to alter the left-hander drastically. This will be touchy to navigate, but they have his long-term health in mind.
