Nationals | Anthony Rendon to have third opinion

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 09:15:55 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) is seeking a third opinion on his left knee by Dr. Steven Singleton in Vail, Colorado. Dr. James Andrews confirmed the initial diagnosis of a sprained medial collateral ligament Monday, March 30. Rendon will be examined by Singleton Tuesday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is likely to start the season on the disabled list now, but how much time he will miss is a bit of a mystery. He's almost surely to fall out of the first-round picture in standard drafts, and temper your bids accordingly. Yunel Escobar is a candidate to start the season opener at the hot corner, with Danny Espinosa manning the keystone. Neither player moves the fantasy needle except for in deep NL-only leagues if you're looking for playing time.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon's diagnosis confirmed

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:40:46 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) was diagnosed with a sprained left medial collateral ligament by Dr. James Andrews Monday, March 30.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($6,400, 12.8% of your cap) will likely miss at least the first week, maybe more. He's one of the top players at the position and a daily consideration on FantasyScore. Yunel Escobar ($2,800, 5.6%) is likely to fill in and has some upside at his low price in good matchups.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman staying at 1B

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:23:53 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman will remain at first base with 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) injured. Zimmerman said he's more comfortable at first base than he was at third base the last two years. 2B/SS Yunel Escobar volunteered to play third.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman's ($5,100, 10.2% of your cap) move across the diamond should serve his body well and allow him to return to his .280-25-90 ways. At 10.2% of your cap, we need to see more signs he can do so before comfortably using him on FantasyScore.

Nationals | DL stint likely for Anthony Rendon?

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 14:25:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 2B/3B Anthony Rendon (knee) is "almost certain" to begin the season on the disabled list, in the opinion of Nats Insider's Mark Zuckerman.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to check back for updates on the severity of Rendon's injury and a return timeline. Additionally, it isn't 100% clear who would step in and play third base in Rendon's absence. Expect Danny Espinosa ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Kevin Frandsen ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) to potentially receive a few extra at-bats, but they're nothing more than low-priced flier in FantasyScore contests.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon still in limbo

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 13:17:55 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Anthony Rendon (knee) was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., Monday, March 30, to receive a second opinion on his left medial collateral ligament sprain. The organization is waiting for a diagnosis.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) appears in danger of missing the start of the season, or at least, he may have an adjustment period due to a lack of spring at-bats. He is likely entering risky territory for FantasyScore contests, too. It is a hefty price tag. Continue to check back for updates on Rendon.

Nationals | No timetable for Anthony Rendon

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 10:50:11 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) has no timetable for his return to baseball activities, according to manager Matt Williams. Rendon had a second MRI exam Wednesday, March 25, that came back clean. Rendon was feeling better than he has recently, though.

Fantasy Tip: The longer Rendon ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) takes to get back to baseball activities, the greater chance he has of not being ready on opening day. You may want to play it cautious with him at FantasyScore and hold off on him when he returns, because he might be slow out of the gates due to lack of spring at-bats.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon still has pain

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:20:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B/2B Anthony Rendon (knee) said he still can't swing a bat without experiencing pain in his knee. "It's still lingering. There is no point in pushing it right now and going back to square one during the season," Rendon said. "We might as well fix it right now rather than later." Rendon may not be ready for opening day, and 3B Ian Stewart is the leading candidate to fill in at the hot corner if that's the case. Stewart has played regularly this spring with Rendon down, and he has hit .323 with three home runs and four RBI. INFs Danny Espinosa and Kevin Frandsen are other options.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon is a player that is often taken at the tail end of the first round in standard 12-team mixed leagues heading into 2015, and his eligibility at both third and second base are very attractive. Keep an eye on his status as spring training comes to a close. But his minor knee injury really shouldn't cause his draft value to fluctuate much.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon likely to miss opener

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 08:35:18 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) had an MRI Wednesday, March 25, that revealed his left medial collateral ligament is healing, but the sprain is still present. Rendon is unlikely to be ready for the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Dan Uggla is having a hot spring. Could he slot in at second with Yunel Escobar, a natural shortstop, at third base? Ryan Zimmerman could shift from first back to third, with Tyler Moore at first. Moore and Uggla will be flyers to consider at $2,000 (4.0% of your cap) on FantasyScore if they are in the lineup.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon may not be ready

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 07:07:51 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) is still experiencing soreness in his knee, and manager Matt Williams said Rendon may run out of time to be ready for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($6,400; 12.8% of your cap) is a top-flight third baseman on FantasyScore and 3B/2B in traditional leagues. If Rendon misses a couple of days, Kevin Frandsen could fill in at third with the team transitioning Ryan Zimmerman ($5,100; 10.2%) to first base. Frandsen ($2,000; 4.0%) has very little daily appeal. The team could shift Zim back to third and put Tyler Moore ($2,000; 4.0%) at first. However, they're focused on transitioning Zimmerman to first, and that could stunt his progression in the field.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon still idle

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 07:07:32 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) is still out with a sprained medial collateral ligament, and manager Matt Williams issued no timetable for Rendon's return. "He has a little sprain in there so we are being cautious, keeping in mind that he is going to need at-bats. You do run out of time eventually," Williams said.

Fantasy Tip: The next week or so will be crucial. MCL sprains can sometimes take a month to heal, so keep that in mind. Rendon is a top five third baseman, and he holds even more value if he's still eligible at second base.
