Cardinals | Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez make history

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 00:21:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha and SP Carlos Martinez each have at least nine wins through the first 75 games of the season. Martinez (9-3) and Wacha (10-3) are the first duo aged 23 or younger with nine or more wins at this point since Dwight Gooden and Sid Fernandez for the 1986 New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals were supposed to fold without Adam Wainwright, but Wacha ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) and Martinez ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) are part of the reason this team has a 51-24 record. These two are must-plays in FantasyScore and pretty much every other fantasy format.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez feeling fine

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 22:09:43 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez (shoulder) felt good Wednesday, June 24, just one day after being hit on the pitching shoulder with a fastball while batting Tuesday, June 23. "It looked bad at the time," manager Mike Matheny said.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($7,200; or 14.4% of cap) should be fine for his next scheduled start, so FantasyScore owners will want to use him. He is 5-1 with a 1.33 ERA over his past seven starts.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez continues strong run

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 19:06:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez struck out nine batters through seven innings while allowing three earned runs over eight hits and a walk during the Cardinals' 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins Tuesday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven consecutive starts and gone 5-2 over the run. He currently sports a 2.89 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 94 strikeouts over 87 1/3 innings for the season. The 23-year-old righty has emerged as a reliable arm in all fantasy formats, and he is pushing towards consideration as a fringe No. 1 fake starter, too.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez has been dominant

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 10:21:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez has a 0.89 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings in his last six starts, and he's given up two runs or fewer in each of those outings. Right-handed hitters are batting merely .186 against him and making hard contact just 6% of the time. Only two right-handed hitters have homered off Martinez in 2015. Most of his success this year has been attributed to his willingness and effectiveness in busting hitters inside. However, Martinez also throws his slider to the outside edge less often than most pitchers in baseball.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) is pretty much a lock as one of your starting pitchers on FantasyScore this evening. Not only will he be tossing in the pitching-friendly confines in Miami, but the Fish rank 26th in OPS against right-handers this year (.664).

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez looks to stay hot

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 20:51:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez is scheduled to face the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, June 17, at Target Field. The Cards are 10-2 with Martinez on the hill, and he is 7-2 with a 2.93 ERA in his first full year in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($7,200; or 14.4% of cap) has been electric for FantasyScore owners, and he has four victories over his past five starts. Keep rolling with him until he starts to cool off significantly.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez wins seventh game

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 17:34:02 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez allowed two runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, June 10, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five starts and carried a shutout into the seventh inning of his outing this afternoon. With the victory, the Cards improved to 10-2 in games he has started this season.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez shines vs. Dodgers

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 06:16:24 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez allowed one run on three hits and four walks while striking out 11 batters over seven innings during the Cardinals' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is 3-1 with a 0.84 ERA and 40 strikeouts through 32 1/3 innings over his last five starts. He has been otherworldly, and the showing Friday is particularly impressive because it was against the mighty Dodgers, and it was the second time in consecutive game he stymied them. Martinez has control issues at time, but fantasy owners can handle the 1.25 WHIP given it accompanies a sub-3.00 ERA and a 10.0 K/9. Martinez's value is on the rise in all formats.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez extends scoreless streak

Sun, 31 May 2015 18:13:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez allowed one hit and struck out eight over seven scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, May 31, extending his scoreless-innings streak to 20 1/3.

Fantasy Tip: In addition to the streak, Martinez ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has struck out eight in three of his last four starts. He has everything working right now, and he is a bargain at FantasyScore at his current price.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez fans eight

Mon, 25 May 2015 20:57:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez struck out eight and allowed five hits over seven scoreless innings but received a no-decision in a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has had two really bad outings this year, but he has allowed two runs or less in seven of his nine starts overall. He also has 56 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings. If the matchup is solid, don't hesitate to to use Martinez at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Carlos Martinez staying in rotation

Mon, 18 May 2015 05:01:36 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez is not being considered for a demotion to the bullpen, according to general manager John Mozeliak.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has had his struggles as of late, but there aren't many other options available. Marco Gonzales has struggled at Class AAA and Jaime Garcia may be ready, but that would be for Adam Wainwright's spot. Keep an eye on Martinez and hold off on starting him.
