Ravens | Jim Caldwell praises Deonte Thompson

Sat, 01 Jun 2013 20:30:09 -0700

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell had positive things to say about second-year wide receiver Deonte Thompson, who's expected to be in the thick of the competition for the second and third wideout spots behind Torrey Smith. "He's a gifted route-runner, and he is getting better," Caldwell said about Thompson. "He's young, and he's developing. ... He understands how to sink his hips. He can do a great job of changing direction."

Fantasy Tip: Thompson, possibly the fastest Raven, will compete with Tandon Doss, David Reed, LaQuan Williams and Aaron Mellette for depth reps. Thompson and Doss seem like the best candidates for inseason fantasy interest.

Ravens | Tandon Doss trying to make most of opportunity

Mon, 13 May 2013 15:10:48 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Tandon Doss is a candidate for a much bigger role in the team's offense after WR Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. Doss should compete for playing time behind WRs Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones and could become the No. 3 receiver. WRs LaQuan Williams, David Reed, Deonte Thompson and Aaron Mellette are the other receiving options that will compete in offseason workouts and training camp. Baltimore is open to signing a veteran wideout to compete in camp, as well.

Doss caught a career-high seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in his second year in 2012, and he expects more from himself this year. Doss said he's completely healthy right now and has worked hard on his durability. He missed the last two games of the regular season with an ankle injury and dealt with a hamstring injury during training camp. He's up to 210 pounds and has improved his quickness. "I'm quick and strong and I've got the speed and can outsmart the linebackers, use my quickness and be able to catch the ball," Doss said. "I've always been one of the strongest receivers, just not the widest. I've got a little strength on me. I feel fast and quick. I've put on weight too fast in the past, but now I put it on slow and I've been maintaining my speed and quickness."

Fantasy Tip: Doss is a sleeper heading into the 2013 season. He'll have plenty of opportunities to prove that he deserves to be a big part of this offense, and he could challenge Jones for the No. 2 WR role. Jones shouldn't inspire confidence for a starting role, plus, he's a big part of special teams.

Ravens | Jacoby Jones likely No. 3 receiver

Sat, 16 Jun 2012 13:27:00 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Jacoby Jones is likely the leading candidate to be the team's No. 3 receiver this year, as he has far more experience and production than that of WRs LaQuan Williams and Tandon Doss. Jones said he is comfortable playing whatever role the team wants him to, and said he is going to have to produce more with fewer opportunities than he had with the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Nothing to get too excited about here for your fantasy football teams. When Jones hits, it is usually productive. The problem is, he has far more misses than hits and the lack of consistency will make it difficult to roster him this season.
