St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak talked Friday, Nov. 22, about the impact of the deal for OF Peter Bourjos, and what it means for prospect OF Oscar Taveras. "When you look at what this means for Oscar...," Mozeliak said. "It's still intriguing for us to (see) him on our club in some way, but clearly it takes a lot of pressure (off) him necessarily in center field. Our expectations are obviously for him to have a healthy spring training and sort of determine what makes the most sense. At the very least you look at this club now and it can change the complexion of the bench with more power off of it depending on who is playing on that given night."
Fantasy Tip: The GM seems to hint there is a possibility Taveras could be used as a fourth outfielder, and that would obviously hurt his fantasy value. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that Taveras could start the year in Triple-A to keep him playing full time, too, and then come up if injuries open up a starting spot. There is still a lot to be determined, and fantasy owners in keeper leagues certainly want to hang onto the dynamic outfielder who has a really bright future.

Fantasy Tip: Taveras is a great looking prospect who is a must-have in long-term keeper fantasy leagues. He will have a chance to win a regular spot in the lineup in spring training, and he will be a must-start in all NL-only leagues and most mixed formats if he breaks camp with the team.

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Allen Craig could become the full-time starter in right field next season, with Matt Adams becoming the regular first baseman, if the team decides not to re-sign free-agent OF Carlos Beltran. Letting Beltran go would also create space on the roster for OF Oscar Taveras.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras (ankle) is back on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Memphis.
Fantasy Tip: Taveras is universally rated as one of the top all-around prospects in the minors this year, but he's been slowed most of this year with a high ankle sprain. When healthy, Taveras could probably play and succeed in the majors right now, but the Cardinals won't rush him. He should be owned in all NL-only leagues, but you'll have to be patient if you're stashing him in a mixed universe.
