Tue, 02 Apr 2013 12:45:11 -0700 Texas Rangers OF Craig Gentry is starting in center field instead of OF Leonys Martin Tuesday, April 2. Martin went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the opener Sunday, March 31. Fantasy Tip: This won't be a straight righty-lefty platoon in center between Gentry and Martin, and Ron Washington hinted at that before the season started. Both of them are worth owning in AL leagues, but you can probably wait to add whichever one gains more consistent playing time in deep mixed formats if Washington chooses to go with the hot hand.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 13:19:48 -0700 Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin will start in center field Sunday, March 31, and is batting ninth in the starting lineup.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 17:54:56 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said the team will allow OF Leonys Martin to try to steal bases whenever he wants during the regular season. "We told him at the beginning of spring training that we were turning him loose," Washington said. "We're going to stay aggressive. Some nights, it's going to turn us off the field. Some nights, it's going to run us into some big innings." Fantasy Tip: The freedom Martin will receive on the base paths certainly will help his value in mixed leagues and American League-only leagues even though he likely will be part of a platoon.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 10:50:35 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has not yet decided if OFs Craig Gentry or Leonys Martin will start in center field on Opening Day against the Houston Astros Sunday, March 31.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:34:56 -0700 Texas Rangers OFs Leonys Martin and Craig Gentry both figure to see plenty of playing time in their center field platoon, but manager Ron Washington hasn't been clear on how he'll use them both. "Both guys will play, but I am not announcing a platoon," Washington said. "I'll find a way to get them both playing time. I'm glad I'm in a situation where I have two guys that can play." Washington has been impressed with Martin all spring. Fantasy Tip: If this were a pure platoon, Martin would have the edge because he hits from the left side. He's worth a pick over Gentry anyway, though, because of his upside. However, he's merely a late-round flier in mixed leagues until we know more on his PT splits.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 12:38:27 -0700 The Texas Rangers are discussing trading OF Julio Borbon with several clubs. The team is committed to using OFs Craig Gentry and Leonys Martin in center field this year.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 16:05:31 -0800 Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (hamstring) returned from a one-game absence with a tight hamstring and went 1-for-2 with three RBIs Thursday, March 7. He is hitting .391 and is tied for second on the team this spring with five RBIs.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 13:24:22 -0800 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to take OF Leonys Martin under his wing this year, meaning the team will keep a close eye on his development, and coach Gary Pettis will work closely with Martin on his defense in the outfield. Martin could be in a center field platoon with OF Craig Gentry.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 12:24:39 -0800 Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin is playing so well during the first five spring games that manager Ron Washington is thinking he may be able to win the center field job outright over OF Craig Gentry (hamstring). "I'm getting him in against everyone and he isn't showing any sign of giving in to left-handers," Washington said. "If this continues, and we feel like he can handle lefties as well as righties, which he has always handled in his career, it's a possibility." Martin has been almost as impressive in the field as with the bat, too. He has gone 6-for-11 with two multi-hit games this spring.
Mon, 25 Feb 2013 14:47:39 -0800 Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin is 5-for-9 (.556) in the early part of spring training and may be creating separation between himself and OF Craig Gentry for the starting center field job.
