Rangers | Texas has no platoon in CF

Tue, 19 May 2015 14:17:18 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is once again starting in center field over OF Leonys Martin Tuesday, May 19, but manager Jeff Banister said that there is no platoon in center field between the two outfielders. Martin has just two hits and two walks in 28 at-bats since May 2, and his average has fallen to .198. DeShields has more walks (10) in 63 plate appearances than Martin does in double the playing time. Banister said Martin isn't bothered by his wrist injury anymore.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) should be avoided at FantasyScore for the foreseeable future, especially if he continues to lose playing time to DeShields ($2,000, 4.0% of cap). DeShields can be an excellent value play for daily gamers, mainly for his speed contributions.

Rangers | Leonys Martin out of lineup Tuesday

Tue, 19 May 2015 13:55:38 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin is not in the lineup Tuesday, May 19, against the Boston Red Sox. Kyle Blanks is in left field and batting fifth, and Delino DeShields Jr. is batting ninth and in center.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is out of the lineup because the Rangers are facing left-handed hurler Wade Miley. Manager Jeff Banister said DeShields is not platooning with Martin for the time being. DeShields ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) may make a decent alternative for Tuesday's game, and Kyle Blanks ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is making just his second left-field start at Fenway. Blanks should be left alone.

Rangers | Leonys Martin out against lefty

Tue, 19 May 2015 11:31:58 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 19. OF Delino DeShields Jr. is starting in center field and hitting ninth in the batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's fantasy stock continues to plummet as he loses playing time to the surging DeShields ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) in center field. Could this be a platoon situation moving forward? It's possible, and DeShields deserves to be owned in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his speed. He's a fine value play at FantasyScore, too, even while hitting at the bottom of the lineup.

Rangers | Leonys Martin to make return

Sat, 16 May 2015 15:09:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (hand) is returning to the starting lineup Saturday, May 16, against the Cleveland Indians. Martin will start in center field and bat seventh in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) hasn't started since May 11, and he had gone 1-for-13 before sustaining the injury. FantasyScore owners should allow Martin to get back up to speed before reinvesting.

Rangers | Still no Leonys Martin for Rangers

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:44:37 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (hand) is missing his fourth straight game with a hand injury Friday, May 15. OF Delino DeShields Jr. once again will start in center field and hit ninth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Bruce Chen.

Fantasy Tip: It's getting to the point where Martin may need a DL stint to rest his injured hand after having a cortisone injection this week. DeShields ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has taken advantage of increased playing time in May, going 10-for-27 (.370) with seven stolen bases. The rookie speedster should be a hot commodity on AL-only waiver wires and for stolen bases in deep mixed leagues if Martin is out for much longer. Consider DeShields a sneaky value play yet again at FantasyScore Friday, even while hitting at the bottom of the order.

Rangers | Leonys Martin out two weeks?

Thu, 14 May 2015 09:33:31 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (hand) missed his third straight game Thursday, May 14, and seventh in the last 10 games with a problem with his left hand. He said he was feeling better after having a cortisone injection Wednesday, May 13, but the team's medical staff said Martin could miss up to two weeks. Martin doesn't believe he'll be out that long, though.

Fantasy Tip: With Martin ailing, Delino DeShields Jr. ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has stepped in nicely in center field and provided the club with a spark at the bottom of the lineup. The rookie speedster is hitting .364 (8-for-22) with five RBI and six stolen bases since May 5. He's a short-term addition in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his speed alone, and if he continues to hit, it'll be a bonus. He's a low-end outfield flyer for his stolen base prowess at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Leonys Martin still out

Wed, 13 May 2015 15:13:45 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (wrist) remains out of the lineup against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 13, with a day-to-day wrist injury.

Fantasy Tip: Outside of a respectable 15-game stretch (eight runs, a home run, seven RBI and six stolen bases with a .281 batting average) to finish April, Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been a serious disappointment. He is worth holding in seasonal leagues because of his upside, but FantasyScore players should aim higher until he shows glimpses.

Rangers | Leonys Martin day-to-day

Tue, 12 May 2015 15:07:27 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (wrist) is listed as day-to-day after with a sprained left wrist. However, a precautionary MRI exam showed no fractures.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been a big disappointment to his fantasy owners this year. With an injury on top of it, he should continue to be avoided at FantasyScore in the near future. Delino DeShields Jr. ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is merely a low-end sleeper play for his stolen base potential.

Rangers | Leonys Martin aggravates wrist

Tue, 12 May 2015 14:55:43 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (wrist) is out of the starting lineup after aggravating his sprained left wrist Tuesday, May 12. He jammed his wrist on a pitch Monday, May 11. OF Delino DeShields Jr. is starting in center field and hitting ninth in the batting order Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's nagging wrist injury won't help him get back on track at the plate in the near future, and you should continue avoiding him at FantasyScore. DeShields ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a low-priced outfield sleeper for daily gamers, but his place at the bottom of the lineup shouldn't endear him to anyone.
