Royals | Salvador Perez still working on deal

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 07:13:38 -0800

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is still talking to the team about reworking his contract Monday, Feb. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Perez hit a career-high 21 homers last season while hitting .260 and driving in 70 RBIs. However, he has caught an astronomical amount of innings the last two years. He's still a high-end catcher at a thin position, but there could be some regression after his power has increased each of the last three years.

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 07:59:38 -0800

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez said his agents are working with the Royals on a new deal but is not sure if an agreement will be reached before the start of spring training. Perez is currently playing under a five-year deal worth $7 million.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is coming off a very productive 2015 season where he hit .260 with 21 home runs. Perez has played in at least 138 games in each of the last three seasons and should be a starting option in every league.

Royals | Salvador Perez up for extension?

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 10:27:12 -0800

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez and the club have opened extension talks, and both sides would like to get something done that would make Perez a Royal for life. Perez's camp has mentioned deals for players like Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki, Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria and Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun, but KC considers those "bad deals."

Fantasy Tip: Perez is one of the better all-around catchers in the game today, and he hit a career-high 21 home runs and drove in 70 runs for the Royals in 2015. He's also been pretty durable despite nagging injuries so far in his early career, making him even more valuable to fantasy owners. Perez will surely be a top-five catcher again in 2016.

Royals | Salvador Perez in lineup for Game 2

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 10:25:06 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez (hand) is in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series Saturday, Oct. 17, batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) was hit on the hand by the backswing of Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson late in Game 1 of the ALCS but continued to play. He is batting .294 this postseason with three home runs and five RBIs, so FantasyScore owners should not hesitate to use him this afternoon.

Royals | Salvador Perez in the Game 5 lineup

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 13:35:06 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez (head) is starting behind the plate and batting seventh in Game 5 of the American League Division Series against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) left Game 4 Monday, Oct. 12, with a head injury, but he passed two concussion tests, and also said he would be in the lineup Wednesday. And while, FantasyScore players should view the backstop as a slight risk, Perez is 3-for-12 during the ALDS with two home runs, so he is worthy of lineup consideration.

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 15:23:48 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has three hits in the series and two of the hits have been home runs. Perez should be a starting option on FantasyScore as long as he is healthy.

Royals | Salvador Perez passes concussion tests

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 15:13:13 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez (head) passed two concussion tests Monday, Oct. 12, one on the field when he left the game and one after he left the game.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was also recently involved in a minor car accident, so there is reason for mild concern. However, unless he is ruled unavailable for Game 5, expect the backstop to be in the starting lineup. Perez remains a worthy option at FantasyScore, especially with a limited field to choose from.

Royals | Salvador Perez involved in car accident

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 10:40:01 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez was involved in a minor car accident after Game 3 of the division series against the Houston Astros Sunday, Oct. 11, but there were no injuries involved, according to his agent, Rafa Nieves. Nieves was riding with Perez. Perez was in the starting lineup for Game 4 Monday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) had just two hits (one home run) in 10 playoff at-bats before Monday's game, but he also homered in Game 4 and remains one of the safer catching options on FantasyScore this postseason.

Royals | Injury updates for Kansas City regulars

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 14:18:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (knee) and C Salvador Perez (thumb) will play against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, Oct. 3, while 1B Kendrys Morales (quadriceps) is expected to play Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Cain ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) and Perez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) can safely be returned to your seasonal lineups Saturday, but they're likely not high-end FantasyScore options. Morales ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), meanwhile, should be viewed as risky start in all fantasy formats Saturday. Continue to check back for updates.
