Mariners | Wade Miley logs quality start in loss

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:06:57 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley recorded a quality start Tuesday, July 19, versus the Chicago White Sox, but saw his record fall to 6-7 after taking the loss. The left-hander worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, including two homers. He also struck out four and walked three.

Fantasy Tip: This is about what owners should realistically desire from Miley every time he's on the hill, as he's not really capable of shutting down most lineups at this point in his career. In fact, he's surrendered three runs or more in all but five of his 17 starts. Despite the fact that half his starts emanate from pitcher-friendly Safeco Field, Miley now sports an unfriendly 5.36 ERA on the year.

Mariners | Wade Miley hittable in loss

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 19:35:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley allowed four earned runs and 10 hits in just 5 1/3 innings with two walks allowed and four strikeouts in a loss Saturday, July 9, against the Kansas City Royals. He slipped to 6-6, throwing 62 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Miley had a respectable 5-2 record with a 4.50 ERA back on May 22, but he has now lost his past four decisions and is only worth keeping around in the deepest of AL-only fantasy formats until he turns things around.

Mariners | Wade Miley hit hard in return

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 23:46:23 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley (shoulder) was tagged for five runs on seven hits in four innings of work against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, June 29. It was his first start since June 12.

Fantasy Tip: If you were hoping Miley's stint on the DL would straighten him out, Wednesday's performance wasn't a great sign. In his last six starts, Miley is 2-2 with a 7.63 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 30 2/3 innings -- and that takes into account seven shutout innings against the Tribe on June 7. Even in AL-only leagues it makes sense to keep Miley away from your starting lineup until further notice.

Mariners | Wade Miley activated

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 17:00:08 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, June 29. RP Nick Vincent was put on the DL in a corresponding move with a mid-back strain.

Fantasy Tip: Miley has been up and down this year with the M's, sporting a 5.28 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and just 6.8 strikeouts per nine innings. He's purely a matchup play in cavernous mixed and AL-only universes and is an extremely risky option in his first start back Wednesday night opposite the Pirates.

Mariners | Wade Miley could start Wednesday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:28:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley (shoulder) appears to be in line to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, June 29, for a start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He retired all 12 batters he faced in a four-inning rehab appearance for Class A Everett Friday, June 24. Miley threw 54 pitches and struck out seven batters.

Fantasy Tip: Miley went 6-3 with a 5.28 ERA in 13 starts this year prior to landing on the DL. He should be avoided in daily fantasy contests in his first game back.

Mariners | Wade Miley to the disabled list

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:07:48 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder impingement Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Miley is a low-end hurler in all fantasy setups and sits with an underwhelming 5.28 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 6.8 K/9. Those numbers aren't worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues. Stay tuned for who will replace Miley in the rotation, but Adrian Sampson is the top candidate with Class AAA Tacoma. Sampson is worth a speculative add for anyone desperate for pitching in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos back in action

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:11:04 -0700

Texas Ranges C Robinson Chirinos is back in the lineup Sunday, June 12, and will bat ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos went 0-for-3 in his first big-league action in over two months after recovering from a broken forearm Friday and was used strictly as a pinch runner Saturday. He'll eventually settle in as the regular catcher again as he gets acclimated, but owners should expect Bryan Holaday and Bobby Wilson to steal some more starts behind the plate over the next few days until that happens.

Mariners | Wade Miley, James Paxton to be separated?

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 20:45:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners SPs Wade Miley and James Paxton are likely going to be separated after their scheduled starts Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12. Manager Scott Servais has an open date Monday, June 13, and it's likely Paxton and SP Hisashi Iwakuma are swapped, keeping Paxton on regular rest to pitch Thursday, June 16, against the Tampa Bay Rays, with Iwakuma seeing two extra days rest before starting Friday, June 17, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma might be the big winner, although his fantasy owners might disagree. An extra two days of rest might be just what the doctor ordered to get him back on track.

Mariners | Wade Miley masterful in win

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 00:11:31 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley improved to 6-2 after delivering seven shutout innings in his start Tuesday, June 7, against the Cleveland Indians. He surrendered only four hits, two walks and struck out three.

Fantasy Tip: Now that's how you bounce back from your worst outing of the season as Miley actually gave up a season-high nine runs in his last start. While he's 6-2, Miley is someone to rely on in deeper fantasy formats.

Mariners | Wade Miley rocked by Minnesota

Sun, 29 May 2016 06:13:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley allowed five runs on six hits -- three home runs -- and four walks while striking out six batters over four innings during the Mariners' 6-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past three seasons, Miley has a 4.47 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 7.5 K/9 through 455 innings over 75 starts. He has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his 10 starts this year but surrendered four or more runs in six of 10. Overall, his inconsistency makes him an undesirable own in the majority of seasonal leagues.
