The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the team has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent DT Shane Burton (Panthers). Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Burton has not played in the NFL since 2003, when he was with the Carolina Panthers.

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports former NFL DL Shane Burton (Panthers) will have a workout with the Kansas City Chiefs sometime this week. His career with the Panthers was cut short by knee problems, which he said are healed.

Carolina Panthers DT Brentson Buckner (knee), who missed the last two regular-season games with a knee injury, is expected to return to practice Tuesday, Dec. 30. If Buckner is healthy, he will likely return to the starting lineup for the playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys and allow the team to utilize a three-man rotation at defensive tackle with DT Shane Burton and DT Kris Jenkins.

Even if injured Carolina Panthers DT Brentson Buckner (hand, knee) is able to play Sunday, Oct. 12, against the Indianapolis Colts, look for reserve DLs Shane Burton and Kindall Moorehead to get more playing time. The Panthers have to be careful not to overuse Buckner. Burton is almost as good as Buckner and Moorehead has come on strong in recent weeks.

Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Carolina Panthers have signed free agent DL Shane Burton (Jets). He turned down an offer a few weeks ago to return to the Jets. He will sign a three-year, $2.125 million contract. It includes a signing bonus of $100,000 and base salaries of $525,000 (2002), $700,000 (2003) and $800,000 (2004). In addition, Burton is owed $250,000 in guaranteed base salary for this year from the Jets.

The NY Times reports the New York Jets continue to work on a new contract for DT Shane Burton. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said the Jets wanted Burton back, but with a pay cut. He would count $1.17 million against the cap under his current deal. Rosenhaus said those talks would continue. The team also continues to work on new deals for S Damien Robinson and CB Ray Mickens. Robinson is due a $2.7 million signing bonus on Friday, and Mickens is due a $2 million bonus. "We've talked about it but we're getting nowhere," Mickens's agent, James Sexton, said. "We always do it at the last minute."

RB/ST Chad Morton (ankle) should be able to finally return to the field this week and is being viewed as probable for this weekend. DT Shane Burton (calf), who missed Sunday's game, is questionable for week eight. Rookie WR Santana Moss (knee) remains OUT on the team's injury report. DE/DT Shaun Elliss (knee) suffered a minor right knee injury on Sunday but was able to return to the game. Edwards said he'll be listed as probable for this weekend's game.
