Cardinals | Matt Carpenter to play at 1B

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 15:50:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter will start at first base against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa Thursday, Aug. 27, and is batting first. 3B Greg Garcia will start at third base and is batting eighth, while 1B Mark Reynolds is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has not seen a lot of playing time at first base but is should not affect his fantasy value. Garcia ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is hitting .298 in limited playing time this season, but owners on FantasyScore may be able to better options to use.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is out of the lineup Saturday, Aug. 22, with 3B Matt Carpenter shifting to second base. 1B Mark Reynolds is playing third and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) isn't a good play against Ian Kennedy in Petco Park on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter enjoys facing the Giants

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 14:26:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter owns a .519 batting average (28-for-54) against the San Francisco Giants, which is the highest among all active hitters with at least 50 plate appearances against San Francisco. Carpenter is leading off against Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Past success doesn't guarantee future results, but Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as an intimidating matchup, either. In fact, the righty has allowed the 12th-highest slugging percentage to left-handed batters among qualified starters. And Carpenter ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) owns a .333/.423/.667 slash line over his past 12 games. If you're spending up at third base, Carpenter is worth a serious look at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter likes leading off

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 20:23:01 -0700

Matt Carpenter 3B Matt Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, Aug. 8, and he is hitting .389 with six home runs and 11 RBI since returning the leadoff spot July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) is still hitting just .266 on the year, but he is worth his price tag at FantasyScore as long as he continues his current hot streak.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter stays hot

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 05:15:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run during the Cardinals' 7-0 win over the Colorado Rockies Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: After a long slump, Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has kicked his funk over the past two games with five runs, two doubles, three home runs and five RBI. It was only a matter of time, and FantasyScore players can return to viewing Carpenter as a solid option in the majority of matchups.

Cardinals | St. Louis reworks top of the lineup

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:36:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is leading off with OF Randal Grichuk batting second and 2B Kolten Wong hitting third against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of value shifting with the swap between Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) and Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), but Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been hitting lower in the lineup of late. Grichuk stands to receieve a huge fantasy boost if he can lock into a spot closer to the top of the St. Louis lineup. All three are worth consideration for FantasyScore usage, but Rusin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a lefty with a respectable 3.38 ERA over his past seven games, including five outings at Coors Field.

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter went 2-for-5 with an RBI Tuesday, July 21, against the Chicago White Sox to snap a 0-for-17 hitless skid.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000; or 10.0% of cap) has been struggling lately, so let him show he is completely out of the slump before trusting him again in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter drops in lineup

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:24:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is batting seventh in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely is low in the lineup because he has struggled against left-handed pitchers this season. Carpenter could be a risky option for owners on FantasyScore because of his matchup.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter will not start

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 10:33:49 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Sunday, July 19. SS Pete Kozma will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely is sitting out because he has struggled against left-handed pitchers. Kozma ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .167 this season and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter leading off vs. Pirates

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:11:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is batting first against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Friday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has an uncharacteristic .193/.331/.228 slash line since Monday, June 1. So he is clearly far from his finest form. Add the daunting matchup against Cole, and there isn't a lot of incentive to lock Carpenter into your FantasyScore lineup Friday.
