Cardinals | Matt Carpenter stays hot

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 05:15:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run during the Cardinals' 7-0 win over the Colorado Rockies Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: After a long slump, Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has kicked his funk over the past two games with five runs, two doubles, three home runs and five RBI. It was only a matter of time, and FantasyScore players can return to viewing Carpenter as a solid option in the majority of matchups.

Cardinals | St. Louis reworks top of the lineup

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:36:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is leading off with OF Randal Grichuk batting second and 2B Kolten Wong hitting third against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of value shifting with the swap between Carpenter ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) and Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), but Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had been hitting lower in the lineup of late. Grichuk stands to receieve a huge fantasy boost if he can lock into a spot closer to the top of the St. Louis lineup. All three are worth consideration for FantasyScore usage, but Rusin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a lefty with a respectable 3.38 ERA over his past seven games, including five outings at Coors Field.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter snaps hitless skid

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 21:55:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter went 2-for-5 with an RBI Tuesday, July 21, against the Chicago White Sox to snap a 0-for-17 hitless skid.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000; or 10.0% of cap) has been struggling lately, so let him show he is completely out of the slump before trusting him again in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter drops in lineup

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:24:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is batting seventh in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely is low in the lineup because he has struggled against left-handed pitchers this season. Carpenter could be a risky option for owners on FantasyScore because of his matchup.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter will not start

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 10:33:49 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Sunday, July 19. SS Pete Kozma will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely is sitting out because he has struggled against left-handed pitchers. Kozma ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .167 this season and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter leading off vs. Pirates

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:11:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is batting first against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Friday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has an uncharacteristic .193/.331/.228 slash line since Monday, June 1. So he is clearly far from his finest form. Add the daunting matchup against Cole, and there isn't a lot of incentive to lock Carpenter into your FantasyScore lineup Friday.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out again

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 11:57:23 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) remains out of the lineup Thursday, July 9. 3B Matt Carpenter is at second base again and 1B Mark Reynolds slides over to third base. 1B Xavier Scruggs is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is slumping and is struggling against lefties this year (.196/.265/.326). Avoid him on FantasyScore. Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) also has struggled against southpaws (.220/.324/.441) and is a dice role as a value play. Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a weak option as a source of cap relief.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong remains out

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 15:05:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) remains out of the lineup Wednesday, July 8. 3B Matt Carpenter sticks at second base, while 1B Mark Reynolds shifts across the diamond to third base, and 1B Dan Johnson is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has cooled off of late at the plate, but he still isn't a bad FantasyScore option, especially against Hammel, who has been much tougher against righties this year. Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Johnson are ones to avoid.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter sees 2B time

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 08:08:22 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter played second base Tuesday, July 7, after 2B Kolten Wong (concussion) was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Carpenter ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) could fill in at second with Stephen Piscotty possibly coming up and filling in at third. Carpenter would gain a lot of traditional league value if he plays enough at 2B to gain eligibility. Carp is a midrange 3B option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong suffers head contusion

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 15:36:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (head) suffered a head contusion in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, July 7, and he's sitting out of Game 2. Wong suffered the injury making a leaping catch in shallow right field. He felt dizzy and walked off with a trainer due to a headache. Wong said he passed concussion tests, but manager Mike Matheny had not confirmed it. "I checked out fine," Wong said. "I was a little slow on some parts, but that just happens when you hit your head. I told them I don't feel concussed at all. I don't feel out of it. I have a little headache, but that's about it." 3B Matt Carpenter is starting at second base in Game 2.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals are likely to take a cautious approach with Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap), especially with the All-Star break next week. Be wary of using him for the next couple of days on FantasyScore, and check back to see if he's in the starting lineup.
