Yankees | David Phelps provides solid relief

Sat, 14 Apr 2012 20:56:58 -0700

New York Yankees RP David Phelps allowed just one earned run, one hit and two walks over 5 1/3 innings of long relief Saturday, April 14, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after taking over for the ineffective SP Phil Hughes. He also struck out four batters in the 78-pitch outing. The highlight of the day for the pitcher, who grew up in St. Louis, was striking out former St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols, now obviously with the Angels. "I've been rooting for him for as long as I can remember. It's one of those things, you watch big league games and it's like 'you know, I wonder what it would be like to pitch to him?," Phelps said. "It's actually cool to get out there and do it."
