The Chicago Bears have signed free-agent DT Corvey Irvin (Buccaneers) and undrafted free-agent WR Demetrius Fields (Northwestern), DT Christian Tupou (Southern California) and CB Maurice Jones (Temple). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also released LB Dom DeCicco and CB LeQuan Lewis.

The Chicago Bears lost LB Nick Roach (Raiders) to free agency, and it's uncertain if free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears) will join him in leaving. The team has seven linebackers under contract, with only LBs Lance Briggs and Blake Costanzo having started an NFL game. LBs Dom DeCicco, Jerry Franklin, J.T. Thomas, Patrick Trahan and Lawrence Wilson could see more responsibilities in 2013.

Chicago Bears LB Nick Roach is expected to start in place of LB Brian Urlacher (hamstring). It would be Roach's fourth career start at middle linebacker. The Bears re-signed LB Dom DeCicco for depth at the position.

The Chicago Bears waived/injured LB Dom DeCicco (groin) Wednesday, Aug. 29. The expectation is that he will be healed by September, and he might be brought back. He was second on the Bears in special teams tackles during the preseason.

Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher (knee), DL Stephen Paea (ankle), S Chris Conte (shoulder), LB Dom DeCicco (groin) and P Adam Podlesh (hip) all missed practice Monday, Aug. 27. Paea is not expected to miss the opener and likely could play if this was the regular season.

Chicago Bears LB Geno Hayes is expected to serve as the team's first-team strong side linebacker in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 9, with LB Nick Roach moving to the middle for LB Brian Urlacher (knee, personal). LB Dom DeCicco is also expected to see plenty of reps once Roach departs.
