The Chicago Bears lost LB Nick Roach (Raiders) to free agency, and it's uncertain if free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears) will join him in leaving. The team has seven linebackers under contract, with only LBs Lance Briggs and Blake Costanzo having started an NFL game. LBs Dom DeCicco, Jerry Franklin, J.T. Thomas, Patrick Trahan and Lawrence Wilson could see more responsibilities in 2013.

Chicago Bears LB J.T. Thomas is expected to have the misdemeanor drug possession charge dropped before the start of training camp as long as he completes the terms of a deferred sentence. The NFL is still reviewing his case but he is not expected to receive any punishment.

The Chicago Bears added LB J.T. Thomas with the 195th pick overall in the sixth round to complete their 2011 NFL Draft. With only LBs Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs under contract heading into 2011, Thomas might have a meaningful role depending on what happens with the NFL labor situation. He is undersized, but that's what the team seeks.
