The New York Jets are not close to a long-term deal for DE Muhammad Wilkerson, according to a team source. The team plans to exercise his fifth-year option before the May 3 deadline, the source said. The Jets could revisit a contract extension this summer, but it's unlikely that they'll consider a long-term deal this offseason unless Wilkerson accepts a team-friendly contract. He'll earn $1.2 million in 2014, and he's in line for $5.25 million to $6 million under his 2015 team option.

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson will not hold out at training camp if he does not get a new deal. "It will be taken care of, definitely. But all that holdout and all that other talk that people were saying and everything – I never said anything like that. I'm not going to hold out," Wilkerson told Metro New York. "It's not something I want; it's not something I'm thinking about. I'm going to show up like everybody else and do what I'm told."

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson, who is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal, is eligible for a contract extension. However, due to the 2011 collective bargaining agreement, the team holds a fifth-year option which needs to be exercised by May 3. Wilkerson is scheduled to make about $1.2 million in 2014, and around $6 million in 2015 if the option is exercised.

The New York Jets have until May 3 to decide if they will pick up the fifth-year option in DE Muhammad Wilkerson's contract. Wilkerson would make between $5.25 million and $6 million if the option is picked up. General manager John Idzik indicated the team could still sign Wilkerson to a contract extension.

The New York Jets may wait to sign DE Muhammad Wilkerson to a contract extension because they could pick up the fifth-year option in his current contract before giving him an extension. Wilkerson is scheduled to make $1.2 million next season but would make $5.25 million in 2015 if the team picked up the option.
