Browns | Jabaal Sheard thinks four OLBs can have impact

Thu, 23 May 2013 18:05:21 -0700

Cleveland Browns LB Jabaal Sheard said he believes he can be part of an impactful outside linebacker rotation with LB Barkevious Mingo, LB Paul Kruger and LB Quentin Groves this season. "It's a long game, and you're going to need a rotation throughout, and it's a long season as well," Sheard said. "So definitely we're going to need to share snaps and split it up amongst the four of us. You've got to stay healthy throughout the whole season, so I think that's going to play a big part in how our rotation works."

Browns | Jabaal Sheard prefers left side

Fri, 03 May 2013 20:28:20 -0700

Cleveland Browns LB Jabaal Sheard was uncomfortable lining up on the right side during his rookie season, and he was quickly moved to the left side. Even on the left side, he has struggled against the run in his first two seasons, so he might be better used on the strong side or teams could take advantage in the run game. As mentioned previously, if LB Barkevious Mingo catches on quickly, Sheard could be used in more of a rotation sub role off the bench.

Browns | Uncertain where Jabaal Sheard fits

Tue, 29 Jan 2013 18:35:33 -0800

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is uncertain where DE Jabaal Sheard will be used in the 3-4 defensive scheme, but he likes what he has seen on tape. Horton was asked if Sheard can play outside linebacker. "I would hope my answer would be, 'Let's not put limits on what players can and cannot do.' Jabaal is a guy that I have seen on film that can rush the quarterback and is athletic," Horton said. "What we are going to do as a coaching staff is put each one of our guys in the best position. He may be a strong safety some time, he can be a linebacker, he can be a (defensive) end."

Cleveland Browns DE Jabaal Sheard said he hopes the team keeps using the 4-3 defensive alignment but is willing to play a new position if the team switches to a 3-4 defensive alignment. "I would be [disappointed in a switch], because I like the 4-3 we're in, and it's a defense where I've been comfortable," said Sheard. "But I'm up for a challenge at any time. I want to show how athletic I am, and show that I can play multiple positions."
