Jaguars | Julius Thomas misses practice

Wed, 07 Dec 2016 13:19:07 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas didn't practice all of last week either, so he could be heading for another absence. If he sits again then Ben Koyacek and Neal Sterling would split duties at tight end, but neither see enough volume to start in fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas did not practice at all during the week and was listed as doubtful on the injury report. Ben Koyack and Neal Sterling are expected to split time at tight end while he is sidelined but neither player should be viewed as a viable fantasy option.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas doubtful

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 08:36:36 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) is doubtful for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has been a shell of himself this year, and the team doesn't have a suitable replacement for fantasy purposes. Marcedes Lewis would be a basement option in DFS if you're looking to ration salary cap space.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas sits again

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 07:52:55 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) remains out of practice Friday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has been a shell of himself this year, and this is a bad sign for his status this week. Avoid him against the Denver Broncos.

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 10:00:30 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Thomas did not play in Week 12 and could miss another game if he does not practice this week. He has not been a big factor in the passing game in the last few weeks, so owners should avoid using him even if he plays.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas ruled out

Fri, 25 Nov 2016 08:24:34 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (back) has been ruled out for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: If you're looking to catch lightning in a bottle, Ben Koyack has the matchup to do it against the Buffalo Bills. They've yielded the fourth-most points per game to tight ends in PPR leagues the last five weeks. Koyack has a five-catch game this season and would be a shot in the dark maybe worth consideration.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas quiet in Week 9

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 15:06:05 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas caught two passes for 21 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas practices in full

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 16:23:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 4, and is not on the injury report for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has not posted big numbers over the last few weeks but should still have a role in the passing game in Week 9. Thomas could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues as a bye week replacement, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better options.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas removed from injury report

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 12:29:50 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is no longer on the Week 9 injury report and is expected to play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the good news, Thomas is going to be hard to use this week. Not only has he failed to eclipse 30 yards receiving in any of his last four games, but he also figures to see plenty of safety Eric Berry, who usually shadows the opponent's top tight end. Kansas City has surrendered only four touchdowns to tight ends since Week 11 of the 2014 season, which is bad news for the touchdown-dependent Thomas. Owners need to look for other options this week.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas practices in full

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 20:29:19 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Nov. 3, and got in a full session.

Fantasy Tip: This should ensure he plays in Week 9. While it won't be an easy matchup opposite a Chiefs defense that is solid against tight ends, Thomas will enter this one having scored in two straight contests. However, he's a touchdown-dependent option at tight end, as he hasn't secured more than three receptions or topped 30 receiving yards since Week 2.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas sits out Wednesday

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 13:38:33 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has dealt with injuries throughout the season but has been able to play in most weeks. He has not posted more than 28 yards in any of the last four games and should only be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas active for TNF vs. Titans

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 16:57:38 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is active for the team's Week 8 matchup Thursday, Oct. 27, against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: He was questionable entering this contest, but even so, it's hard to lean on the former Denver Bronco right now in any standard leagues based on his production as of late, not to mention the fact that he's probably at less than 100 percent health. Over his last three games, Thomas has combined for just 61 receiving yards on seven catches, though he did manage to find the end zone last week. He's starting to fall into TE2 territory if he can't turn things back around.

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 11:13:56 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 26, and is listed as questionable for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to check the inactive list to see if Thomas will be able to play against the Tennessee Titans this week. He has not posted more than 28 yards in any of the last three games and probably can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas held out of practice

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 16:00:05 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) did not practice Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: It's concerning that Thomas didn't practice today after practicing yesterday, especially in a short week. If Thomas doesn't practice tomorrow then he'll probably be doubtful for Thursday night's contest. Marcedes Lewis would start if Thomas does not play, but Lewis isn't a capable TE1 like Thomas is.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas also limited

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 16:24:48 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) was limited in practice Monday, Oct. 24. The Jaguars did not practice; the limited status is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas was the silver lining of the Jaguars' Week 7 loss, but he just can't be trusted as a weekly TE1 with Blake Bortles sporadic play. His injury and possible jet lag via going to London could also be negative factors.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas visits end zone

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 20:31:51 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) posted three grabs for 20 yards and a touchdown in the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: The touchdown was nice for Thomas, his first since Week 1, but the yardage total stunk for the third straight game. He can no longer be trusted as a TE1 until he starts to produce like he did back in the first two games when he had nine grabs for 135 yards and a score.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas active for Week 7

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 09:13:28 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) is officially active for the team's Week 7 game.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has not made a big impact in the passing game at this point and has recorded only 41 yards in the last two games. He could be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end in Week 7 because of the matchup.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas not being utilized

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 18:43:19 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' 13 receptions this year rank 28th among tight ends, and he hasn't been targeted in the red zone this season.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have played a part in Thomas' lack of production, but his tenure with the Jaguars continues to be underwhelming. He is a low-end TE1 candidate against the Raiders in Week 7.

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 16:39:55 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 21, and is listed as questionable for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' status is uncertain at this point, so owners will need to check the inactive list to see if he will play. Fri, 14 Oct 2016 16:31:35 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Thomas should have a solid role in the passing game this week and has a chance to have a good game against the Chicago Bears. Owners in deeper leagues should consider him a low-end No. 1 tight end.

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 16:46:29 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas should be able to play in Week 6 after giving his injury two weeks to heal. He has received at least five targets in each of the three games he has played this season and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) participated in practice Monday, Oct. 10, and is confident that he will be able to play in Week 6 even though he missed the last game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Thomas' practice participation this week to see if he will be able to play in Week 6. Thomas should have a favorable matchup this week against the Chicago Bears and can be a low-end No. 1 tight end in leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas to return for Week 6

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 11:13:00 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) is still rehabilitating his left elbow injury, but he is expected to return in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears following the Week 5 bye.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas had a good thing going before suffering the injury in Week 3. Unfortunately for Thomas, the Bears have been one of the better fantasy defenses against tight ends this year. There are still two weeks until the Jaguars play, but it might be best to sit Thomas coming off the injury and in a tough matchup.

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) is inactive for Week 4 and will not play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Marcedes Lewis will see targets but is far from a viable fantasy play this week. Look for more action coming the way of Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas limited in practice

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 12:56:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is being considered a game-time decision for Jacksonville's Week 4 tilt with the Colts. After managing just two catches for 13 yards in last week's effort, owners might want to consider using another tight end this week if there's another solid option on the roster, as Thomas could be playing limited. If he has to sit, Marcedes Lewis gets the biggest boost but his production is typically erratic and hard to trust.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas questionable

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 07:16:35 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has an 11-148-1 line through three games. He has a good matchup if he can suit up against the Indianapolis Colts, and Thomas would be a midrange TE1 candidate.

Jaguars | No practice for Julius Thomas

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 12:49:59 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is a low-end No. 1 tight end when healthy. He has received 17 targets through the first three games and turned them into 11 receptions, 148 receiving yards and a touchdown. You'll want to monitor his status leading into his Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. If Thomas misses the game or is limited, Mercedes Lewis projects to see an increased role in the offense and could be a potential low-priced flier in daily contests.

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas has full practice

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 14:28:14 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas appears to be all systems go for Week 2 against the San Diego Chargers, who gave up a ton of yards and points to the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Thomas is in TE1 territory again as a legitimate threat to score in back-to-back weeks.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas practices

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 11:14:22 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) practiced Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: After sustaining a sprained ankle in the Week 1 game Sunday, Sept. 11, it's encouraging that Thomas was a participant in practice Wednesday. He lands in a strong matchup against the San Diego Chargers this week and checks out as a low-end TE1 with upside.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas sustains ankle injury

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 11:37:52 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in a Week 1 loss against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Here we go again? Thomas' lack of durability is well-chronicled, and his ankle problems are a big part of that. The artist formerly known as "Orange Julius" played 56-of-74 snaps versus the Packers, so it would seem this particular injury isn't going to be a big deal. Assuming that is the case, consider him a low-end TE1 versus the San Diego Chargers in Week 2.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas to see big role

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 07:19:09 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas will be a significant part of the offense in 2016, and QB Blake Bortles said it would be irresponsible if Thomas weren't.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' injury in camp last season didn't allow him to get into a rhythm, but he did have a stretch last year with a touchdown in four straight games. He'll be a midrange starting option at the position that could have some upside in an offense on the rise.

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (ankle) participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 3, despite suffering an ankle injury during practice Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas appears to be fine and likely will receive plenty of targets in 2016. He is a bit of a risky option for owners since he has dealt with injuries over the past few seasons, but Thomas can be a No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas dominant in OTAs

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:55:31 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas has looked unstoppable in OTAs, according to beat writer Hays Carlyon.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas started to click with Blake Bortles late in the year, catching four of his five touchdowns in the final seven games. He should be a major factor in the red zone in 2016 and could easily finish as a TE1.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas busy at OTAs

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 19:52:37 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' situation is much more stable this season, as he and QB Blake Bortles are building rapport during the offseason program. "Julius looks good," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Monday, June 6. "Guys that have been here have been relatively healthy and Julius has been one of those guys, so he's been able to get a lot of reps and a lot of work in so far."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has posted 29 touchdowns over the past three seasons, which is even more than Seattle's Jimmy Graham and New England's Rob Gronkowski during the same span. If Thomas can stay healthy he is a tremendous sleeper for fantasy owners in the middle rounds on draft day.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles meets with Julius Thomas

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:53:34 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he met with TE Julius Thomas multiple times this offseason because he wants the same chemistry with Thomas that he had last year. "We had a chance this offseason to sit down multiple times, watch film and talk about things," Bortles said. "Talk about what he wanted from me and what I wanted from him and how we can quickly get on the same page to grow together."

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a solid 2015 season and will have plenty of weapons to work with this upcoming season. Thomas missed four games because of injury but was still able to record 455 yards and five touchdowns. Bortles should be considered a starting candidate in most leagues, while Thomas could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in some deeper leagues.

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:19:17 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is the best pass-catching tight end in the NFL, according to WR Allen Robinson, and QB Blake Bortles expects to have better chemistry with Thomas in their second year together.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas showed flashes of his upside down the stretch last season, and if he can stay healthy, which is no guarantee, he should be a top-five fantasy tight end.
