Giants | Jerrel Jernigan placed on IR

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 13:59:24 -0700

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan (foot) has been placed on season-ending Reserve/Injured Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: This would ideally give Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle more opportunities, as well as TE Larry Donnell.

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan has foot sprain

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 11:36:56 -0700

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan (foot) has a mid-foot sprain and is being evaluated. There is no timetable yet on his return.

Fantasy Tip: Jernigan is only worth a flex start in deeper leagues anyway. If he misses any time, Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle could see more targets.

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan in starting lineup

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 10:24:46 -0700

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan has been starting at wide receiver opposite WR Rueben Randle with WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) sidelined. WR Victor Cruz is working out of the slot in three-wide receiver formations. WRs Corey Washington and Preston Parker are the other receivers on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: With Beckham expected to miss around the first three weeks of the regular season, Jernigan could be a suprise performer, starting in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Jernigan will be cheap for daily games. Don't overlook him.

Giants | Receivers inconsistent

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:19:25 -0700

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Mario Manningham have not made many big plays this preseason. Cruz initially caught a long play-action pass Saturday, Aug. 16, but dropped it. Randle has one catch for 12 yards in three games. Jernigan has not carried over his momentum from late last season, per head coach Tom Coughlin, and also dropped a throw from Eli Manning Saturday. Corey Washington has three touchdowns but received fewer first-string practice reps than Manningham in first-string practice reps Monday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Add in Odell Beckham Jr.'s injury, and there's little reason to believe in this offense right now. At least this may make them cheaper fantasy options.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 19:37:42 -0700

New York Giants CB Charles James could make the roster as a punt returner as a result of injuries to RB David Wilson (neck) and WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) and poor play by CB Jerrel Jernigan. Jernigan dropped three punts in practice Tuesday, July 29.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. expected to miss a week

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:35:23 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) is expected to be out at least another week, although tests on his hamstring came back negative Tuesday, July 29. The Giants are hoping Beckham can be a playmaker at receiver in their new West Coast offense. He'll compete for a starting spot against WR Jerrel Jernigan.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham's injury doesn't look to be too serious, but he'll miss valuable repetitions during training camp as a rookie. Beckham has speed and upside, but there will be plenty of inconsistency in a new offense and with Eli Manning chucking him the pigskin.

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan in mix to start

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 20:30:10 -0700

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan is expected to compete with rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) for a starting spot.

Fantasy Tip: Jernigan has a chance to get a leg up in the competition with Beckham sidelined for at least another week due to a hamstring injury. Even if Jernigan can win a starting job, he shouldn't be viewed as much more than a WR4 or flex fantasy play in leagues of 12 or more teams.

Giants | Agree to terms with Mario Manningham

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 09:43:41 -0700

The New York Giants agreed to terms with WR Mario Manningham (49ers) on a one-year deal Tuesday, March 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Manningham will have to learn a new offense, and will have to prove that he can stay on the field. He is likely behind Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan ahead of him on the depth chart. At best he is a No. 4 wide receiver.

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan finishes on high note

Sun, 29 Dec 2013 14:48:25 -0800

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan finished the regular season with a first-half touchdown reception and 49-yard touchdown run in the Week 17 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Jernigan emerged as a legitimate weapon down the stretch, and might lessen the blow if the team elects now to bring back Hakeem Nicks. Jernigan could be quite the fantasy sleeper in 2014 depending on the team's offseason moves at the position.

Giants | Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan to showcase their skills

Fri, 20 Dec 2013 16:46:26 -0800

New York Giants WRs Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan (knee) will see more opportunities in the final two regular season games with WR Victor Cruz (knee) done for the season. Randle has already had success this year, scoring six touchdowns through 14 games after scoring three all of last year. He has 37 grabs for 571 yards. Jernigan is questionable for Week 16 against the Detroit Lions but said he was "feeling all right." Jernigan, who had seven catches for 57 yards last week, would likely replace Cruz in the slot position.

Fantasy Tip: Randle will see plenty of attention from the Detroit Lions secondary with Cruz out, but he could be plenty useful as a WR3 or flex in Week 16. Jernigan is more of a shot in the dark.

Giants | No practice for Victor Cruz

Thu, 19 Dec 2013 09:33:55 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) is not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Tip: With Cruz missing practice again, it is becoming even less likely he will play. Hakeem Nicks, Jerrel Jernigan, and Rueben Randle would all likely see more work as a result.

Giants | Victor Cruz could go on IR

Wed, 18 Dec 2013 12:26:47 -0800

The New York Giants may consider placing WR Victor Cruz (knee, concussion) on Injured Reserve because of his knee injury and concussion. If he is placed on IR, WR Rueben Randle likely would become the No. 2 wide receiver with WR Jerrel Jernigan being the No. 3 wide receiver.

Giants | WR race loses one combatant

Sun, 11 Aug 2013 18:21:01 -0700

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Rueben Randle, Louis Murphy and Jerrel Jernigan are expected to be the team's top five wideouts. After that, there is a battle between Ramses Barden, Keith Carlos, Kevin X. Hardy and Julian Talley for the sixth receiver job, if the team elects to keep that many. WR Kris Adams (leg) was in the mix for the No. 6 job, but he fractured a leg in the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, Aug. 10.

Giants | Rueben Randle ready for bigger role

Wed, 24 Jul 2013 09:53:56 -0700

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle turned heads during the offseason program, and he is ready for a bigger role in the offense behind WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. However, Randle is not locked into the third receiver job yet, as he needs to hold off WRs Ramses Barden, Jerrel Jernigan and Louis Murphy, among others.

Fantasy Tip: Randle has the most upside of any of the competitors for the No. 3 job, and with a good season he could make the injury-prone Nicks expendable after this season. For fantasy purposes, Randle is a nice later round addition on draft day. He is potentially just more Nicks injury or setback away from starting.

Giants | Ramses Barden re-signs

Thu, 23 May 2013 10:17:33 -0700

The New York Giants re-signed WR Ramses Barden to an undisclosed deal Thursday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: This signing shouldn't have much to do with the fact that both Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are absent from organized team activities this week. Barden will have to compete for the No. 4 receiver role with Louis Murphy and Jerrel Jernigan, though, so his chances to make significant contributions in the passing game may rely on injuries. For now, consider him a possible waiver wire target later in the year.

Wed, 22 May 2013 19:09:54 -0700

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan taking advantage of opportunity

Wed, 22 May 2013 10:22:42 -0700

New York Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan has shown progress as Victor Cruz remains absent from OTAs. WR Hakeem Nicks said his teammate has been adjusting well to the slot role, which fits him. "I feel like he got a lot of reps," Nicks added. "He's a little older now, he's a little mature. He got more patient in his routes. ... He's catching the ball a lot better, and he's ready to step up."

Fantasy Tip: Complementary pieces to this aerial game have filled solid fantasy depth roles for the last few years. With Domenik Hixon gone, Jernigan has a chance to make more noise, but the presence of Louis Murphy and Rueben Randle probably limits his upside.

Giants | Looking for Jerrel Jernigan to step up

Sat, 11 May 2013 11:10:57 -0700

New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said he believes WR Jerrel Jernigan has the opportunity to step his game up during offseason workouts since he will be the main slot receiver with restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz sitting out the workouts. "I think it's about time that he steps up. And I think we feel he has enough ability and he's been here now long enough. Until Victor gets back, he'll be the main guy inside at the slot position. It's a chance for him to shine and step forward and do the things that we believe he can do," Gilbride said.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are clearly the top two receivers on the team but Jernigan could have the chance to compete for playing time if he does well during the workouts and training camp. Jernigan has not done much since entering the league and probably is not worthy to be selected in drafts at this point.

Giants | Jerrel Jernigan might get chance

Wed, 06 Feb 2013 21:32:59 -0800

The New York Giants are looking for a consistent third receiver behind restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz and oft-injured WR Hakeem Nicks. WRs Ramses Barden and Domenik Hixon are each impending free agents, which leaves WR Jerrel Jernigan to battle WR Rueben Randle for the third receiver job. Jernigan and Randle are both expected to show growth during the offseason.
