Ravens | Torrey Smith finds end zone

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 17:59:15 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith had a pair of receptions for 53 yards in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers. One was good for a 29-yard touchdown, his first of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Earlier this week, Smith vowed to be better, and fantasy owners saw some improvement. He still has a long way to go before he re-emerges as a bona fide must-start fantasy receiver, but this was definitely a start.

Ravens | Torrey Smith determined to improve

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 17:08:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith is determined to turn things around after his dismal start through the first three games, according to reports. After posting a team-high 1,128 receiving yards with 65 receptions a year ago, he is on pace for just 453 yards and 32 receptions this season. WR Steve Smith has become the center of attention in the receiving game, and Torrey Smith is second fiddle. "I have folks tweeting me how terrible I am, and I could very easily have had three touchdowns and 300 yards the past couple weeks. That's how the ball rolls. I'm not used to it, but we'll get over it soon. (He and QB Joe Flacco) were as close as you can get to touchdowns. We just have to be on the same page and get it done," Smith said.

Fantasy Tip: The loss of Dennis Pitta to a season-ending injury will help Smith become more of a factor in the passing game by default. While he cannot yet be trusted by owners in FantasyScore, especially with a difficult matchup in Week 4, he is still worth keeping on a roster in weekly leagues for his potential.

Ravens | Steve Smith targeted heavily

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 05:46:49 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith was targeted 10 times in Week 2 and hauled in six catches for 71 yards. WR Torrey Smith had just three targets and caught one pass for 10 yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Smith looks to be Joe Flacco's new favorite target. At $3,700 (7.4% of your cap) on FantasyScore, he was a decent buy this week. Torrey Smith could be the bargain next week depending on how much Steve Smith's price tag jumps.

Ravens | Potential contract extensions for Haloti Ngata and Torrey Smith?

Mon, 23 Jun 2014 13:08:03 -0700

Baltimore Ravens DT Haloti Ngata and WR Torrey Smith are potential targets for contract extensions before training camp.. Smith is entering the last season of his rookie deal, and Ngata has two years remaining on his team-high $16 million contract. Both players have said they don't want to play anywhere else, and with a bit of salary cap room and no gaping holes on their roster, it may be the right time to attempt to secure Ngata and Smith. Keeping them with the organization is a priority for the Ravens.

Ravens | Torrey Smith a one-trick pony?

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 12:37:30 -0700

One anonymous general manager said that Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith is "a bit of a one-trick pony (as a downfield threat)." Of the 130 passes that were thrown to Smith last year, 26 percent went over 20 yards in the air, and he led all NFL players in the most targets and routes run on passes that traveled over 20 yards. In 2013, he had only 39 catches on throws that went 10 yards or less, which ranked him 71st among receivers in the league. WR Steve Smith's presence in the offense could limit opposing defenses from bracketing their coverages on Smith all game long. Also, offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is known for not taking too many downfield shots.

Fantasy Tip: Smith had a career year in 2013, but his dependence on the deep ball is definitely concerning, especially for fantasy owners in PPR leagues. Smith remains a much better play in standard-scoring formats, and Steve Smith shouldn't have an adverse effect on his value.
