Fri, 12 Jul 2013 09:47:52 -0700
The Washington Redskins are sorting out their RB depth chart. Roy Helu seems like the best fit for changeup work, and he has improved in his pass protection. Evan Royster will have to be beaten out for his roster spot. Rookie Chris Thompson (knee) would be a solid fit for triple-option reads and third-down plays, as well, but he needs to heal following a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Plus, he needs to gain experience in picking up blitzes. Jawan Jamison, another first-year player, looks to be more in the mold of Royster.
Fantasy Tip: Royster seems like he'd be the best fill-in for Alfred Morris as the main back, but Helu will be the likeliest to have an every-week role if everyone is healthy. But with Mike Shanahan running things, you can't cement a hierarchy.
Sun, 19 May 2013 18:32:41 -0700
The Washington Redskins have seven running backs on the roster right now, with only RB Alfred Morris guaranteed of a job in Washington this season. Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 13 times for a game-high 76 yards in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. Fellow RB Evan Royster had four carries for just six yards, but he was able to score a rushing touchdown.
Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Florida Atlantic University has now failed to score a touchdown in three straight games for the first time in his career. Despite the lack of scoring, he remains the top back in Washington and should be treated as a solid RB2 or 'flex' play heading into Week 10.

Helu is dealing with turf toe and had been limited with an injured Achilles' tendon in the preseason. Royster was limping around Monday, Sept. 24. Helu was wearing a walking boot following the team's Week 3 game, but he's listed as day-to-day, too.

Sun, 16 Sep 2012 23:47:37 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris had 16 carries for a game-high 89 yards in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams. RB Evan Royster had just one carry for four yards, and two catches for seven yards, while RB Roy Helu Jr. did not even have one carry, and he had one catch for no gain.
Fantasy Tip: Morris appears to have a strangehold on the top tailback job, but that can change at the drop of the hat with head coach Mike Shanahan. Still, fantasy owners can feel confident using Morris as an RB2 or 'flex' play heading into Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals in a very favorable matchup.
Mon, 10 Sep 2012 12:18:03 -0700

Sun, 09 Sep 2012 16:32:31 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu Jr. carried just two times for two yards in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, and he added three receptions for 25 yards. RB Evan Royster carried just two times for 10 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Helu and Royster were definitely overshadowed by RB Alfred Morris, who rumbled for 96 yards and two touchdowns. If you're an unfortunate fantasy owner who has Helu or Royster on a roster, don't panic just yet. Head coach Mike Shanahan is very fickle with his RBs. However, the explosion by Morris likely gives him the majority of the carries in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams, so Helu and Royster should be benched until further notice.
Sun, 09 Sep 2012 07:53:52 -0700
Washington Redskins rookie RB Alfred Morris is expected to start during Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. Morris was the team's most impressive back during the preseason.
Fantasy Tip: Don't get too excited. Coach Mike Shanahan is no stranger to using a committee approach during the game. Even if Morris starts, that doesn't guarantee he will be given the majority of the touches. He, Roy Helu and Evan Royster are all RB3 material with plenty of risk.
Mon, 03 Sep 2012 18:13:08 -0700
Updating a previous report, despite being listed as the top tailback on the Week 1 depth chart released Monday, Sept. 3, RB Evan Royster is still unsure if he will be the starter against the New Orleans Saints. "I think they're going to keep us pretty much in the dark until probably the day before the game," Royster said.

Sat, 01 Sep 2012 18:10:22 -0700
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan indicated Saturday, Sept. 1, that he has settled on a starting running back for Week 1, but he is keeping it a secret. He said RBs Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster have made "tremendous progession" in pass protection, so the starter is believed to be one of the two.
Fantasy Tip: Helu, Royster and undrafted rookie RB Alfred Morris are each expected to see touches in the opener against the New Orleans Saints. This type of secretive behavior by Shanahan gives fantasy owners fits. Look for Shanny to play the hot hand throughout the season, so be prepared to shuffle your lineup accordingly.
Wed, 29 Aug 2012 23:08:19 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster carried 10 times for 44 yards and a touchdown in the preseason finale Wednesday, Aug. 29, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also added a pair of receptions for 15 yards.

Tue, 07 Aug 2012 17:38:18 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster looked like the best back in the team's training camp last week, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. People from the organization have given Graziano the impression that they believe Royster has a higher ceiling than RB Roy Helu, if each is healthy. They also think highly of rookie RB Alfred Morris, who isn't out of the mix, in part because health is their chief concern regarding both Royster and Helu.
If Tim Hightower (knee) is healthy, he remains the starting running back.
Head coach Mike Shanahan likes to give his backs something close to a full workload in the preseason in order to evaluate them, which probably means that Royster will play the majority of the Redskins' preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 9. It might be difficult to assess Royster in the upcoming contest because FB Darrel Young (hamstring), OT Jammal Brown (hips) and OG Kory Lichtensteiger (knee) are out, and OG Chris Chester (ankle) may not play.
Fantasy Tip: In other words, don't read too much into who's starting in the first preseason contest. Fantasy players should file the reported opinions of Washington personnel in their memory banks, however.

Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster will start in Thursday night's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Mike Shanahan.
Tue, 31 Jul 2012 14:01:56 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster is trying to take over the team's No. 1 running back duties. To win the starting job, he has to outperform RBs Roy Helu and Tim Hightower. "We're all trying to do that. So it's going to be tough," Royster said. "You can't tackle him," head coach Mike Shanahan said about Royster. "He makes people miss. He knows how to cut and he knows when to cut." Royster said he feels comfortable in the offense. He did note that the one thing he wants to improve on is his conditioning, as he felt he wasn't as prepared physically as he needed to be last season.

Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster is expected to be a situational player this season because he lacks the speed to be an every down back.
