However, RBs Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen showed glimpses of brilliance in their rookie seasons last year, and will see the focus of the running game shift to them in 2012.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley appears to have taken the role as lead running back over RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Ridley has more carries the past two games (24 to 13) and has been far more productive with a 5.4 yards-per-carry average to Green-Ellis' 2.1.

New England Patriots RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis is not unhappy with his part in what has turned into a running back by committee approach by head coach Bill Belichick. "Whatever it is, we're just gonna go out there and try to win the game," Green-Ellis said Tuesday, Dec. 20. "That's the ultimate goal. From the backfield standpoint, all five of us are ready to go out there and contribute to get a 'W'. This is not an individual sport." In the Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos, he shared most of the carries with RBs Danny Woodhead and Stevan Ridley.

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley carried 11 times for a team-high 65 yards in the Week 15 win against the Denver Broncos. It was the second-highest yardage total of Ridley's rookie season since he had 97 yards in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders.
