Giants | Shane Vereen on track to play |
Fri, 29 Sep 2017 16:17:58 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen likely will continue to be used as mostly a receiver out of the backfield against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but probably would not be a great option for fantasy owners.

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 11:10:59 -0700
New York Giants LB Jonathan Casillas (ankle, wrist) did not practice for the third straight day Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Orleans Darkwa (back) C Brett Jones (hip) and DE Olivier Vernon (ankle) each were limited in practice and are also listed as questionable. LB B.J. Goodson (shin), OG Bobby Hart (ankle) and RB Shane Vereen (calf) were also limited in practice Friday but removed from the injury report. CB Janoris Jenkins (ankle) practiced in full for the third straight day and also no longer appears on the injury report.

Giants | Shane Vereen does not practice |
Thu, 28 Sep 2017 12:05:50 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Vereen may be in danger of missing the Week 4 game because of the injury, so owners should monitor the situation. He has been more involved in the passing game so far this season but only has 129 total yards in three games. Paul Perkins is probably the only Giants running back with fantasy value and should be considered a flex option.

Giants | Shane Vereen sidelined due to calf |
Wed, 27 Sep 2017 12:13:45 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen is nursing a calf injury, while Orleans Darkwa was off the field due to a back ailment. If one or neither can go, or they're limited in Week 4, it would mean Paul Perkins would see more touches.

Giants | Just three touches for Shane Vereen |
Sun, 24 Sep 2017 16:36:05 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen posted two catches for 18 yards in Week 3 against the Eagles and he rushed just once for five yards.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen was limited to three touches, but he still managed a critical mistake running out of bounds in a key situation to give Philadelphia extra time on the clock. Just three touches helps no fantasy players.

Giants | Shane Vereen leads run game |
Mon, 18 Sep 2017 21:14:58 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen rushed six times for a team-high 28 yards in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions on Monday, Sept. 18, and he added three receptions for 27 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen leading the team in rushing tells you a little something about how the night went for the G-Men. Vereen isn't known for his rushing, but for his hands out of the backfield. He is a tremendous PPR option in most fantasy leagues, but not terribly valuable in some standard formats. The Giants travel to Philadelphia in Week 3.

Giants | Shane Vereen secures nine receptions |
Sun, 10 Sep 2017 22:09:35 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen did not have a rush attempt in Week 1 at Dallas, but he was able to contribute with nine receptions for 51 yards on 10 targets.
Fantasy Tip: The run game isn't where Vereen is effective, but he does have a tremendous hands out of the backfield. Vereen remains a solid RB3 or flex option in most PPR formats. He'll look to carry over the momentum into Week 2 against Detroit.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa getting first-team run |
Fri, 11 Aug 2017 12:52:41 -0700
New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa has been splitting first-team reps with Paul Perkins and seeing even more work than usual with Shane Vereen unavailable recently. According to the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard, Darkwa appears to be challenging for a feature role.
Fantasy Tip: Perkins is not an elite NFL feature back, but he certainly brings more ability to the table than Darkwa. It is highly unlikely Darkwa will do much more than take a few early-down snaps from Perkins. Vereen is more of a threat to Perkins' overall playing time, assuming the former can stay healthy. The Giants seem to want a committee backfield, so it will be Perkins to achieve much more than RB4 production.

Giants | Shane Vereen not rushing back |
Fri, 09 Jun 2017 11:21:29 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is taking a slower approach this offseason after he admitted returning prematurely from a torn triceps last year.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen will likely be playing behind Paul Perkins and splitting time with Wayne Gallman, among others. He should be mostly used in passing-down situations and thus has more value in PPR leagues as a late-round option.

Giants | Shane Vereen ready to go |
Fri, 19 May 2017 18:54:20 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is fully recovered after tearing his triceps twice last season.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen's role is limited to passing downs, but as much as the Giants throw the ball, he is still a RB4 in PPR formats with potential as a flex option.

Giants | Shane Vereen takes pay cut |
Thu, 23 Mar 2017 10:29:32 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen reduced his 2017 base salary from $3.15 million to $2.15 million, according to NFL Players Association records.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen is strictly a late-round PPR consideration. He is expected to have a complementary role alongside Paul Perkins. Newly acquired Shaun Draughn possesses similar traits as Vereen, which could make Vereen's role more complicated. In other words, he may not see the field as much.

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (arm) is expected to be back with the team in 2017 as long as his rehab from a torn triceps continues to go well, according to beat writer Jordan Raanan.
Fantasy Tip: If Vereen returns, he should immediately become a factor in the passing game and have flex value in PPR formats.

Tue, 20 Dec 2016 22:39:16 -0800
Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) will need surgery on his injured triceps, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen was out for the season no matter what, but this news speaks to the severity of the injury. Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins could have limited value over the final two weeks if you're looking for a fill-in.

Tue, 20 Dec 2016 07:11:36 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 20, ending his season.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen re-injured his triceps last week, and it's unknown if he'll require surgery or how long he'll be out. He'll be a big question mark next fantasy season but could still provide a PPR spark. Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins will continue to be flex options the final two weeks.

Giants | Shane Vereen re-injured triceps |
Mon, 19 Dec 2016 16:10:53 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) re-injured his triceps during the team's Week 15 game, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.
Fantasy Tip: The severity of Vereen's injury is uncertain at this point, so owners should check on his status later in the week. Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins would share work at running back if Vereen is not able to play, but neither player is more than a flex option.

Giants | Shane Vereen misses practice |
Mon, 19 Dec 2016 15:09:04 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) did not practice Monday, Dec. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins just as damaging to Vereen's fantasy value as his injury. His role should remain limited, if he plays, especially since he's not at full health. Keep Vereen on the bench, or just release him.

Giants | Shane Vereen to play in Week 15 |
Sun, 18 Dec 2016 09:01:50 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) is active for Week 15's game against the Detroit Lions.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and had been listed as questionable on the injury report. He is expected to receive limited touches this afternoon and could have a role in the passing game but is too much of a risk to depend on for production in the fantasy playoffs.

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) was been cleared from the concussion protocol and is expected to play in the team's Week 15 game, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen probably will receive limited touches against the Detroit Lions this week but should be involved in the passing game. Owners probably can find better options to use in their lineups and can avoid Vereen.

Giants | Shane Vereen listed as questionable |
Fri, 16 Dec 2016 11:37:58 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) is listed as questionable to play in the team's Week 15 game Sunday, Dec. 18, against the Detroit Lions. He got in another limited practice Thursday, Dec. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen has been practicing on a limited basis all week, meaning he's probably on track to play this weekend. At the same time, he isn't really an option for fantasy teams in the postseason, even in the deepest of formats, as he'll most likely be suiting up at less than 100 percent if he plays. Plus, there aren't many touches available for the former Patriot out of the backfield, too.

Giants | Shane Vereen limited |
Thu, 15 Dec 2016 13:12:04 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 15.
Fantasy Tip: With Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins both healthy and in the mix, Vereen's fantasy value is limited. He's better off in PPR leagues, but he should not be started in the fantasy playoffs, especially after just one catch for 10 yards last game.

Giants | Limited practice for Shane Vereen |
Wed, 14 Dec 2016 13:51:20 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen caught just one pass for 10 yards in his return to action last week. His fantasy value is stinted due to Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins. It's probably safe to keep Vereen on the bench for the remainder of the fantasy season.

Giants | Shane Vereen has concussion |
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 07:55:51 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) played three snaps Sunday, Dec. 11, before leaving with a concussion.
Fantasy Tip: That would explain why he only had two targets. Check back for updates. If he receives clearance, he's a flex option in PPR leagues.

Giants | Shane Vereen sees little action |
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 06:19:42 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen caught one of his two targets for 10 yards Sunday, Dec. 11.
Fantasy Tip: It was his first game action in months, and he didn't have any carries. This might be pretty typical with him running a few routes in the backfield. He's a very iffy flex candidate in PPR formats.

Giants | Shane Vereen activated |
Sat, 10 Dec 2016 09:43:16 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 10.
Fantasy Tip: It is not known how many touches Vereen will receive in Week 14, but he probably will see limited snaps because he has not played since September. Owners probably should look for other options to use and can avoid Vereen because of his uncertain role.

Giants | Shane Vereen expected to play Sunday |
Sat, 10 Dec 2016 07:43:38 -0800
Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) will be activated from injured reserve Saturday, Dec. 10, and is expected to play in Week 14's game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the team's plans.
Fantasy Tip: Although Vereen's return could be a big boost to an otherwise anemic New York running game, owners in most fantasy formats would be best served avoiding him in his first action since Week 3, especially since it's uncertain how many carries he will see.

Giants | Shane Vereen may have a role |
Wed, 07 Dec 2016 11:28:58 -0800
New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said the team may have a package of plays for RB Shane Vereen (triceps) if he is ready to play in Week 14. Vereen's status will be determined Saturday, Dec. 10.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen has not been able to play since September because of his injury but has been able to practice over the last few weeks. He probably would see limited touches if he is active for Week 14 and probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Giants | Shane Vereen practicing |
Wed, 07 Dec 2016 09:40:33 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is practicing again Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Giants | Shane Vereen hopes to play vs Cowboys |
Tue, 06 Dec 2016 21:49:11 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is hoping to be activated in time for the team's Week 14 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Fantasy Tip: Anyone in a PPR league that's desperate for a running back should consider grabbing Vereen now as a possible late-season boost, though clearly plugging him into your lineup this week (assuming he's actually activated) would require a leap of faith.

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) returned to practice Wednesday, Nov. 30. The team has 21 days to activate him from the Reserve/Injured list.
Fantasy Tip: There are still some hurdles to clear, but Vereen is a sneaky stash option with the potential for him to return soon.

Giants | Shane Vereen's status still unclear |
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 11:14:32 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) may be able to return to practice this week, although head coach Ben McAdoo told reporters he is taking a wait-and-see approach before making a decision.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen is still on the Reserve/Injured list and may not return this season, but the Giants are reportedly eyeing a Week 14 return, which means he'll need to start practicing pretty soon. If Vereen makes it back, he'll likely take the place of Paul Perkins and return to his usual pass-catching role. In such a case, Vereen could return the same kind of RB3 value he had prior to his injury.

Giants | Shane Vereen could return next month |
Sun, 27 Nov 2016 08:15:55 -0800
The New York Giants are hoping that RB Shane Vereen (triceps) will be able to return from injured reserve Dec. 11.
Fantasy Tip: Although Vereen averaged 4.7 yards per carry when healthy, he is only worthy of stashing in deep seasonal leagues at this point, if you can afford the roster space.

Giants | No indications Shane Vereen is close |
Wed, 09 Nov 2016 22:50:53 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is eligible to return to practice, but there have been no indications Vereen is ready to return. He was placed on the Reserve/Injured Designated to Return list with a torn triceps Sept. 27. "Haven't had those conversations yet," head coach Ben McAdoo said Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen averaged 4.7 yards per carry this season when active, but there is no sense stashing him away in most fantasy leagues right now. Wait for a more definitely timetable before using a roster spot on him unless you have super deep benches and can afford the spot.

Giants | Good chance Shane Vereen returns? |
Mon, 07 Nov 2016 10:42:19 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) has a "good chance" to reap term before the end of the season, according to The Bergen Record's Art Stapleton.
Fantasy Tip: Stapleton admits the Giants will have a better idea about Vereen around Thanksgiving. Despite the optimism, the scatback was eligible to return to practice last week and did not, and it makes sense he would only be allowed to return if New York is still in the playoff race when he is ready, which is far from a sure thing. Owners in deeper leagues can stash Vereen if they like, but it is just as likely that rookie Paul Perkins has already emerged as the main back by the time Vereen is cleared.

Giants | Shane Vereen goes to IR |
Tue, 27 Sep 2016 13:37:33 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Fantasy Tip: As has previously been stated, Bobby Rainey and Orleans Darkwa should see increased roles with Vereen sidelined, with Rashad Jennings maintaining his starting role as long as he's healthy. Paul Perkins could even start to manage a few touches per game, but his fantasy value is still minimal. Rainey is the better bet in PPR formats and should be claimed off waivers, especially by those who have Vereen on their roster.

Giants | Paul Perkins ready for bigger role |
Tue, 27 Sep 2016 09:29:22 -0700
New York Giants RB Paul Perkins is among the candidates who will be asked to fill the void left behind by the absence of Shane Vereen (triceps) after the team's leading rusher suffered a triceps injury in Week 3 that is expected to sideline him at least two months. Head coach Ben McAdoo stated a committee will replace Vereen and that Perkins is "ready to step up".
Fantasy Tip: Perkins is arguably the most talented player in the Giants' backfield and was labeled a "three-down back" by the Giants' administration shortly after they drafted him this spring. Rashad Jennings is expected back in Week 4 and will likely cede some work to Orleans Darkwa and Bobby Rainey, but the fifth-round rookie should be added to watch lists now at the very least. He is certainly capable of overtaking Jennings at some point later in the season and appears to be the team's back of the future.

Giants | Shane Vereen could return late in season |
Mon, 26 Sep 2016 13:06:10 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is expected to take two months to recover from triceps surgery, according to sources. He could be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and then come off later.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen will still miss several weeks assuming he does go through with the surgery. Rashad Jennings, Orleans Darkwa and Bobby Rainey will all see upticks in their workloads, but Rainey seems like the favorite to take over pass-catching duties out of the backfield. He is a top waiver wire consideration this week, especially for those who own Vereen.

Giants | Shane Vereen out for the season |
Mon, 26 Sep 2016 10:31:50 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) will miss the rest of the season with a triceps injury that will require surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen turned 13 touches into 95 yards and a touchdown and was still in the game on the Giants' final offensive play in Week 3, so it is unclear when he suffered the injury. His loss stings a team that was already missing Rashad Jennings due to a thumb injury. Rookie Paul Perkins is the player that should slide into Vereen's role, but it appears New York doesn't believe he is ready yet. If Jennings is out again Week 4, expect Orleans Darkwa to get the start and Bobby Rainey to absorb Vereen's complementary role.

Giants | Shane Vereen scores rushing TD |
Mon, 26 Sep 2016 04:28:09 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen had 11 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 29-27 loss to the Washington Redskins Sunday, Sept. 25.
Fantasy Tip: The problem with using Vereen on a regular basis is it looks like the Giants may have a RB by committee approach. Orleans Darkwa had a touchdown as well and ran for 53 yards. Stay away for the moment until the Giants sort out who will carry the ball the most.

Giants | Rashad Jennings unlikely to play |
Sun, 25 Sep 2016 06:14:09 -0700
Contrary to a previous report, New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (thumb) is not expected to be active for Week 3's game against the Washington Redskins. RB Shane Vereen is expected to see the bulk of the snaps in his place.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen is averaging four yards per carry and has caught six passes for 47 yards through the first two games this season. He merits consideration as a flex option in most fantasy formats.

Giants | Shane Vereen slated as third-down back |
Fri, 05 Aug 2016 12:28:05 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen will be utilized as the third-down and hurry-up-offense back this season.
Fantasy Tip: This isn't surprising, and as a result, Vereen's fantasy value is much higher in PPR leagues. He's caught 111 passes over the past two seasons with nine total scores. View Vereen as a depth option to plug in during bye weeks and not a weekly starter in all fantasy formats, and he shouldn't be targeted until the later rounds of drafts.

Giants | Solid workload for Rashad Jennings? |
Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:31:09 -0700
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings could see around 15 to 18 carries per game in 2016, according to John Schmeelk of giants.com. Jennings will still be the Giants' primary running back, with RB Shane Vereen serving as the third-down back.
Fantasy Tip: Jennings has been underrated so far this year for a starting running back. He did leave something to be desired, but Jennings still deserves RB3 consideration after amassing nearly 1,200 total yards and four total touchdowns.

Giants | Minimal impact from Paul Perkins? |
Thu, 12 May 2016 14:05:17 -0700
New York Giants rookie RB Paul Perkins isn't expected to have much of an impact in his rookie season, in the opinion of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano anticipates RB Andre Williams to have the first shot at being the short-yardage running back and Jennings' backup, with RB Shane Vereen reprising his pass-catching and third-down role.
Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings will start, but the hype train on Perkins may need to hit the brakes a little bit before the season starts. Perkins will need to work his way up to take playing time away from Jennings, Williams and Vereen, so don't draft him as more than a speculative RB5 in traditional leagues.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa, Shane Vereen do little |
Mon, 14 Dec 2015 22:34:24 -0800
New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa carried three times for 10 yards in the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins Monday, Dec. 14, and he added a six-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen had one grab for 10 yards and one carry for no gain. RB Andre Williams ran three times for just three yards.
Fantasy Tip: Darkwa appears to slowly (and unofficially) have jumped Vereen and Williams on the depth chart for the second spot on the running backs pecking order. Still, as long as Rashad Jennings is healthy none of the trio is worth a look in most fantasy formats.

Giants | NYG struggle to run the ball |
Sun, 06 Dec 2015 19:50:58 -0800
New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa ran eight times for a team-high 23 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Jets, and he had a 10-yard catch. RB Andre Williams rushed six times for 22 yards, while RB Rashad Jennings had five totes for 14 yards and a 19-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen also had four runs for 13 yards and two grabs for seven yards.
Fantasy Tip: The Giants wanted to run the ball more effectively in Week 13, but not one piece of the four-player monster really seemed to be able to build any momentum. The Giants backfield is a fantasy nightmare, so stay away.

Giants | Shane Vereen totals 63 yards, TD |
Sun, 01 Nov 2015 19:06:56 -0800
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen ran just two times for three yards in the Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints, but he added eight receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) can be a decent low-end RB2 or flex FantasyScore option when facing a team with a poor passing defense, as that's where Vereen is most dangerous.

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 09:51:31 -0700
New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa had played on just two offensive snaps heading into Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he was the leading rusher in the preseason by averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was non-committal if Darkwa would see more work behind RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams.
Fantasy Tip: That question was answered: Darkwa had eight carries for 48 yards and a touchdown against Dallas. While he could continue to be mixed in, the G-Men just have too many mouths to feed for Darkwa to continue to be anything more than a deep sleeper option for FantasyScore users.

Giants | Shane Vereen disappears on MNF |
Mon, 19 Oct 2015 22:19:38 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen carried four times for zero yards in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Oct. 19, and he had one reception for six yards. He was targeted four times.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) had a strong game in Week 5, but he was nearly non-existent in this one. FantasyScore players should avoid Vereen until he starts to produce much more consistently.

Giants | Shane Vereen could have bigger role |
Wed, 14 Oct 2015 07:02:44 -0700
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen could have a bigger role in the passing game if WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) or WR Rueben Randle (hamstring) are unable to go Monday, Oct. 19, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fantasy Tip: Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) could be a nice flex play on FantasyScore this week.
