Braves | A.J. Pierzynski sitting out

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 07:37:14 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 2, with C Christian Bethancourt hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) isn't a good option on FantasyScore despite a good matchup against Adam Conley.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt not starting Tuesday

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 12:29:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt is not starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, against the Miami Marlins. C A.J. Pierzynski is in Bethancourt's place, and he is batting fifth against Marlins SP Justin Nicolino.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is out for the second time in three days, likely because of the presence of the lefty pitcher for Miami. He is also hitting .091 against the Marlins. Pierzynski ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is hitting .222 in the last week, so that light bat carries little FantasyScore value.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt to see majority of starts

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:11:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt is expected to see the majority of starts at catcher for the rest of the season, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. The team wants to see what they have in their young catcher heading into the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: That pretty much closes the book on A.J. Pierzynski's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) fantasy value in the majority of leagues. He was having a fine season, too. Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) now becomes worth owning in deep mixed and leagues that start two catchers if you're unhappy with your current backstop. Take a wait-and-see approach with him in daily leagues, but it's hard to pass up his current salary if he gets in a groove with consistent playing time.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski not in lineup

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:56:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 26. C Christian Bethancourt is starting and hitting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Yohan Flande. Also, OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left field and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Against Flande, using Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) and Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) aren't bad considerations if you're looking for salary cap relief. Gomes, especially, could return nice value in the middle of the order against a lefty.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt starts vs. Rockies

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 13:11:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt is starting behind the plate and batting fifth against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Monday, Aug. 24. C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt struggled mightily during a 29-game stint with the Braves earlier this season, and it is unknown how many starts he'll receive, so seasonal owners will want to temper their expectations. However, there is plenty of upside, as Bethancourt posted a .327/.359/.480 slash line over 218 plate appearances with Class AAA Gwinnett this season. Pierzynski's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) fantasy value will likely take a hit, as Atlanta didn't recall Bethancourt to sit on the bench. Expect a near timeshare.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt sent down

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 09:14:01 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt was optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett Monday, June 15. C Ryan Lavarnway was brought up from Gwinnett in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt really struggled with a .208-1-9 line. A.J. Pierzynski, who has slowed after a hot start, has vastly outplayed the developing prospect. At $4,200 (8.4% of cap), Pierzynski's .204-1-7 line since April just doesn't cut it on FantasyScore.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski sitting out

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 09:09:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Dillon Gee Sunday, June 14. C Christian Bethancourt will be the starting catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) probably will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has six hits and two RBI in his last four games and could be a cheaper catcher option for owners on FantasyScore.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski resting Thursday

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 06:47:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski has the day off Thursday, June 11, in favor of C Christian Bethancourt.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) faces Andrew Cashner with a .196 average on the season. We're passing on FantasyScore.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski out of lineup Tuesday

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 12:22:42 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 9, against the San Diego Padres. C Christian Bethancourt is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is likely out of the lineup with righty James Shields pitching for San Diego. Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) gives the Braves the righty vs. righty matchup, and he is 4-for-8 in his last two games. He's definitely worth the start.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt hits first homer

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 20:43:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt hit a walk-off home run, his first career home run, in a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, June 6. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt's ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) first homer was certainly memorable, but for fantasy purposes, he remains an unexciting option. He is hitting just .205 and hasn't shown enough consistency to warrant consideration at FantasyScore.
