Dodgers | Tim Federowicz expected to be primary option

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 18:22:14 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Tim Federowicz said Tuesday, April 8, that he is prepared and expects to be the team's primary catcher while C A.J. Ellis (knee) is on the mend.

Fantasy Tip: Federowicz certainly has more offensive upside than Drew Butera, but this is just the word of the player and not the word of the skipper. However, Federowicz is worth scooping up in all NL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats which require two starting backstops.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis to DL, Tim Federowicz recalled

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 14:45:15 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed C A.J. Ellis (knee) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 8, and recalled C Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Federowicz and Drew Butera will split catching duties with Ellis out for four to six weeks. Federowicz should be your first target in NL-only or two-catcher leagues, as he has more offensive upside than Butera.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis' knee was an issue

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 06:07:35 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Dodgers C A.J. Ellis (knee) had been receiving lengthy treatment after each game, but the conditioned worsened after he was thrown out trying to score from second Saturday, April 5. C Tim Federowicz is expected to be called up because C Miguel Olivo isn't on the 40-man roster.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis will not be involved in platoon

Sat, 05 Oct 2013 11:38:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said C A.J. Ellis is expected to receive all of the starts behind the plate throughout the NLDS. He had platooned with C Tim Federowicz over the final six weeks of the regular season.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis day-to-day

Fri, 31 May 2013 14:36:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C A.J. Ellis (oblique) is day-to-day with a strained oblique that is affecting him when he swings a bat.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique strains typically require DL stints. Tim Federowicz and Ramon Hernandez will split duties behind the plate with Ellis out. Federowicz is your best bet to produce in two-catcher, NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis bugged by injury

Thu, 30 May 2013 17:17:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C A.J. Ellis (side) is out of the lineup Thursday, May 30, while dealing with a sore right side muscle.

Fantasy Tip: Tim Federowicz was called up Thursday and is starting in place of Ellis. If Ellis' injury keeps him out for a while, it'll make Federowicz more attractive in NL-only setups.

Dodgers | Matt Kemp placed on DL

Thu, 30 May 2013 16:29:50 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, May 30. RP Stephen Fife (shoulder) was activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, and C Tim Federowicz was recalled from Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp has been a major disappointment for his fantasy owners. He missed two months last year with a hamstring ailment, and his second-half power and speed suffered. This hamstring injury isn't believed to be as serious, but it could linger if he's not careful.

Scott Van Slyke will reap the benefits of more frequent playing time with Kemp out, making him more intriguing in deep mixed affairs. Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston Jr. might be mixed in at center field, too. Federowicz could be an addition to NL-only rosters that start two catchers. Don't rule out the Dodgers getting desperate and summoning Joc Pederson or Yasiel Puig, either. Pederson wasn't in the lineup at Double-A Chattanooga tonight, meaning a call-up could be imminent.

Dodgers | Tim Federowicz called up

Wed, 08 May 2013 15:33:44 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled C Tim Federowicz from the minors Wednesday, May 8, and optioned SS Justin Sellers in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Ramon Hernandez hasn't been contributing at all with his bat, so expect Federowicz to be the primary offensive backup to A.J. Ellis. Sellers being optioned confirms that the Dodgers will run with Dee Gordon as their primary shortstop with Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) out. There's a decent chance Gordon will stay at short when Ramirez returns, too.

Dodgers | Ted Lilly activated

Wed, 24 Apr 2013 13:08:24 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated SP Ted Lilly (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 24, and optioned C Tim Federowicz to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: If you're hurting for pitching depth or own Zack Greinke (collarbone) or Chris Capuano (calf) and you haven't added Lilly yet, you should seriously consider it in deep mixed leagues. Lilly is no spring chicken anymore, but he's a nice innings eater (when healthy) and pitches in a pitcher-friendly ball park.
