Tue, 14 May 2013 18:24:07 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura has been working out with OF Ryan Braun, joining the All-Star in the weight room. "He came up to me and started asking a lot of questions (in spring training)," Braun said Tuesday, May 14. "I think he has a desire to get better. I think he's done better than anybody could have possibly hoped; he's been amazing to this point." 3B Aramis Ramirez has also decided to look out for Segura, mentoring him like veterans did for him back when he was coming up. Fantasy Tip: Working with two of the best players on the team shows Segura wants to get better, and fantasy owners have to love that he is continually trying to improve. He has emerged as a must-start fantasy option in all formats, and ranks among the Top 20 in the majors in batting average.
Tue, 14 May 2013 13:25:22 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers offered SS Jean Segura a long-term contract about a month ago, according to his agent, Joe Klein. However, Klein said the two sides aren't close to agreeing on anything because Segura is in the early stages of his career. Segura is hitting .368 with a 1.000 OPS, six home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He is making $492,000 this year. Fantasy Tip: Segura is the real deal at shortstop, and the Brewers clearly realize that. He has shown some surprising power this year, and his speed is excellent. He must be owned in all fantasy baseball leagues.
Tue, 30 Apr 2013 11:15:45 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura had three triples and a home run in the team's victory Monday, April 29.
Sun, 28 Apr 2013 20:33:49 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (fingernail) returned to the lineup Sunday, April 28, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was scratched Saturday, April 27, due to a split fingernail on his index finger. Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to keep the surprisingly effective Segura active in all NL-only fantasy leagues, and most mixed formats, heading into the new week.
Thu, 25 Apr 2013 13:01:57 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura has flown under the radar as one of the league's best shortstops, but he has a slash line of .356/.397/.493 in April and is one of the faster men in the bigs. He also hit .313 with a .367 on-base percentage in the minors and won a batting title in the Dominican Winter League. "He's really been under the radar," general manager Doug Melvin said. "I don't think he's ever listed in the top-25 prospects. But he's 22, going on 23, and he's really opened our eyes. I see people talk about the (Jurickson) Profars and even the Dee Gordons. But they never talk about him. He's an exciting player." Fantasy Tip: Segura has flown under the fantasy baseball radar as well, but he won't for much longer. If he's still floating around on your deep-mixed waiver wire, don't wait around for this stolen base aid and batting average helper.
Tue, 09 Apr 2013 13:36:02 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (thigh) is in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 9.
Mon, 08 Apr 2013 08:48:43 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (quadriceps) is still sore and won't be in the lineup Monday, April 8.
Sun, 07 Apr 2013 20:54:54 -0700 Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (quadriceps) wasn't too concerned about his quadriceps injury after the game Sunday, April 7. "Just a muscle thing," Segura said. "I don't think it will take too long. Hopefully we will see tomorrow." Segura will be re-evaluated Monday, April 8. Fantasy Tip: Sunday injuries are always the worst. Check back Monday on Segura's ailment. It doesn't sound too serious, but it is possible he misses time in the upcoming week even if he doesn't hit the 15-day disabled list. That makes him a risky fantasy play.
Sun, 07 Apr 2013 13:31:25 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (quadriceps) left the team's game Sunday, April 7, because of a bruised left quadriceps.
Tue, 29 Jan 2013 12:19:12 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SS Alex Gonzalez is expected to serve as the backup to SS Jean Segura this season. The team reiterated over the weekend that they remain committed to Segura as the starter at shortstop.
