Diamondbacks | Jean Segura returns

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:30:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (head) returned to the lineup Thursday, May 26, and he's leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Segura has tapered off with a .293 average this month. He has a tough matchup against Gerrit Cole, but he remains a midrange consideration.

Diamondbacks | Brandon Drury starting at second

Wed, 25 May 2016 13:50:36 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B/OF Brandon Drury is starting at second base and batting fifth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Wednesday May 25. 2B Jean Segura (head) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Drury is receiving enough at-bats to be a viable option in the majority of seasonal leagues, and he has a .300/.329/.520 slash line for the campaign. He is a viable option in daily contests Wednesday, too. Segura was not diagnosed with a concussion after being hit in the head with a pitch during the game Tuesday, May 24, so he should return to the lineup sooner than later.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura is not concussed

Wed, 25 May 2016 13:39:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura (head) said he did not suffer a concussion after being hit in the head by a pitch Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for updates on Segura, but it appears he has avoided any serious injury and should be back in the lineup soon. To this point, he has an impressive 25 runs, five home runs, 23 RBI and six stolen bases with a .316/.347/.477 slash line.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura sent for tests

Wed, 25 May 2016 09:08:54 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (head) was sent to the hospital for tests after showing signs of a concussion after he was hit by a pitch in the head Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Segura to be in the lineup today, and if he's diagnosed with a concussion he'll need to go on the 7-day concussion disabled list. Be prepared to be without him for at least a week and possibly longer. Phil Gosselin, Brandon Drury or Chris Owings are all candidates to see time at second base if Segura misses time.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura leaves game

Tue, 24 May 2016 18:35:26 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura (head) left the game early Tuesday, May 24, after being hit in the head by a pitch. He was replaced by OF Michael Bourn.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to keep an eye on the situation because Segura likely will be tested for a concussion. Chris Owings and Phil Gosselin are candidates to start at second base if Segura misses time and may be sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues. Bourn could receive starts if Owings moves to the middle infield but is not a strong fantasy option.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura hitting on the road

Sat, 21 May 2016 00:15:41 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura had two hits and an RBI Friday, May 20, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Segura has now hit successfully in 10 straight road games,

Fantasy Tip: Segura now has a .337 batting average, and he has hit well from the leadoff spot. All this adds up to a recommendation to play Segura in all formats. He seems to be the straw thet stirs the Arizona drink, or at least the one that rescued the Diamondbacks from a horrid fate on he field.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (hip) returned to the starting lineup after missing three games with a sore hip and went 2-for-4 in a 4-0 loss to the Miami Marlins Thursday, May 5.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura back in lineup

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:29:40 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (hip) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: You'll want to get Segura immediately back into your starting lineups in traditional fantasy leagues the way he's started his season off hot. In daily formats, though, it may be wise to take a pass after he missed the last few games with a hip injury.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura not chasing pitches

Thu, 05 May 2016 10:57:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura has cut his swing rate on pitches outside the zone from 38.5% to 31.4% this year. His .365 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot is well above the major league average (.339). However, his average on balls in play (.359) is 55 points higher than his career norm.

Fantasy Tip: Cutting down on chasing bad pitches is a start for Segura, but his incredibly high BABIP says regression is in store for the Arizona leadoff man. His power (four home runs after hitting six all of last year) also is unlikely to be sustained over the full season. Even if Segura has made strides with some plate discipline, he remains an attractive sell-high candidate.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura may be out until Friday

Thu, 05 May 2016 10:10:21 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura (hip) could be out until Friday, May 6, although he did single in a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, May 4. "We'll see how the progress goes," Segura said before the game. "I don't think it's going to take too long. I think we're being smart and not trying to be too tough. We're only in May, so we've got five months to play."

Fantasy Tip: Segura owners are itching to get him back into their starting lineups the way he's played to begin the year. Keep in mind that his hot start is being buoyed by a BABIP that will drop, meaning Segura's hot start and power numbers won't last. He's a prime sell-high candidate after the first month of the season.
