New York Jets FS Josh Bush and SS Antonio Allen are expected to compete for one of the starting safety jobs during training camp. Allen worked with the first-team defense during organized team activities, but Bush worked with the starters during minicamp. SS Jaiquawn Jarrett could also become a part of the competition during camp.

The New York Jets have signed QB Matt Simms, WR Royce Pollard, WR Titus Ryan, OT Dennis Landolt, DT Tevita Finau, LB JoJo Dickson, LB Jacquies Smith and FS Jaiquawn Jarrett to futures contracts. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said he only has himself to blame for the selection of S Jaiquawn Jarrett in the second round of the NFL Draft. Jarrett was recently released by the team after playing just 13 games. "That's my responsibility," Reid said. "I mis-evaluated that (pick) ... You're not going to be right 100 percent of the time."

The battle for the starting strong safety job between SS Kurt Coleman and SS Jaiquawn Jarrett got more interesting when the team signed free-agent SS Oshiomogho Atogwe. Coleman and Jarrett are still considered the favorites for the job opposite FS Nate Allen, with Atogwe serving in a backup role and as a veteran mentor.

Philadelphia Eagles SS Oshiomogho Atogwe, who received no up-front money to sign with the team this offseason, is scheduled to make the league minimum base of $825,000 this year, which means he is likely to have a reduced role. He'll provide depth behind Ss Kurt Coleman, Nate Allen and Jaiquawn Jarrett. Atogwe has only $100,000 in fully guaranteed money, but he can make up to $100,000 in roster bonuses ($6,250 per game) and $225,000 in incentives. His deal is worth $1.15 million overall.

Philadelphia Eagles SS Jaiquawn Jarrett tried to add weight during the season but he was unable to keep the weight on as the season went on. The team likely will want Jarrett in the weight room this offseason to add muscle.
