Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears OG Gabe Carimi told the team during their April minicamp that he would not be attending the organized team activities and will work out in Arizona. Carimi believes working out in Arizona will give him the best opportunity to regain full strength in the knee that has bothered him since he entered the league.

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery isn't worried that OT Gabe Carimi has been absent from organized team activities this week. "This is a voluntary situation, and every player has to make his own decisions," Emery said. "Gabe has made a decision that he wants to stay in Arizona and train, and we respect that. And he'll be welcomed with open arms when he comes back." The team drafted OT Kyle Long in the first round of this year's draft, and it's assumed that Long will take Carimi's guard spot, leaving Carimi to battle for a starting job. Carimi told the team that he'd be skipping OTAs after their minicamp in April.

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Tuesday, April 16, that he believes OL Gabe Carimi is better suited to compete for a starting job at guard, not at right tackle. "(Carimi is) more a guard," Trestman said. "He is more of a guard. He was hurt all of last year, so we're going to focus in on him competing at the guard position with (Matt Slauson)."

Chicago Bears OT Gabe Carimi (knee) said Sunday, May 13, that he expects to be ready for the team's veteran minicamp which runs from June 12-14. "I'm feeling really good. They're saying another couple of weeks and I'll be here for OTAs and minicamps," Carimi said. Carimi suffered a dislocated kneecap in Week 2 last season.
