Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the potential move of Carolina Panthers DL Julius Peppers to right defensive end may have to do with the rest of the roster more than Peppers' dismal 2007 campaign. After the retirement of DL Mike Rucker, the team does not have another legitimate pass rusher. The Panthers are hoping DL Charles Johnson, DL Stanley McClover or DL Tyler Brayton can step up and claim a starting job and the winner of that battle might have better luck going against right tackles.

The Associated Press reports former DL Mike Rucker said he retired Tuesday, April 22, because he had nothing left to give the Carolina Panthers. Rucker said it was obvious that his body was spent after chasing down quarterbacks and running backs.

Updating a previous report, Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers DL Mike Rucker announced his retirement Tuesday, April 22. Rucker finishes his nine-year NFL career, all with the Panthers, with 553 tackles and 55.5 sacks.
