The Cleveland Browns exercised the fifth-year option on DT Phil Taylor's contract for the 2015 season Friday, May 2. Taylor will make $5.5 million in 2015. Head coach Mike Pettine said Taylor "is a great fit for what we want to do on defense."

OT Mitchell Schwartz (toe), OT Joe Thomas (back), LB Tank Carder (shoulder), LB Paul Kruger (illness), CB Jordan Poyer (toe), FS T.J. Cleveland Browns DL Phil Taylor agreed to a combination guaranteed base/roster bonus for 2014 instead of a full guarantee. The $750,000 roster bonus, due in early March 2013, forces the Browns to make an early decision on whether or not to keep Taylor for the year. His base salary for the final year is also $750,000.

Taylor tore his left pectoral muscle bench-pressing during the team's offseason conditioning program May 10, and he had surgery May 16. "I'm itching to get back, but I'm not going to rush it," Taylor said.
