Denver Broncos LB Nate Irving has improved with his move to strongside linebacker, showing more quickness in space. The team used him in the base defense against the San Diego Chargers in Week 6 Monday, Oct. 15, when the Chargers were in heavier formations on early downs. Irving needs to show he can consistently shed blockers to receive more playing time, though. Denver showed four-linebacker sets Monday, too, with Irving joining LBs Keith Brooking, Von Miller and Wesley Woodyard.

Mays plans to slim down to his playing weight of 245 pounds at the season's start. "I just want to come back in great shape," Mays said. "I'm trying to get my body to where it should be so that I can hopefully start." Mays will compete with LB Nate Irving for the middle linebacker job in camp.

North Carolina State LB Nate Irving ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds and 4.79 seconds at his Pro Day Wednesday, March 23, reports Gil Brandt, of NFL.com. He ran the short shuttle in 4.25 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.98 seconds. He measured 32 1/2-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot-11 broad jump and completed 27 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. Irving worked out in front of linebacker coaches from the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
